Morning all, been doing some research and found this:

"Engine code Capacity Bore (mm) Stroke (mm) Bhp @rpm Torque (lb/ft) @rpm"
X14XE 1398 77.6 73.4 90 6000 92 4000
13S 1297 75 73.4 75 5800 74 4200

Both engines have the same stroke & big end bearing size. only difference i can find is the gudgeon pin size, My +0.05mm 13s pistons have a 20mm gudgeon pin and the X14XE ones are a 18mm gudgeon pin. Would it be safe to machine the 14xe rods an extra 2mm as so to make it possible to use them with a 13s crank/pistons? or would it just detonate? lol Cheers, jake.

What are you trying to achieve, a 1300 16V engine?

which wouldn't be the case as he would have to bore it out to fit the 14xe pistons, so like you i struggle to see what he's trying to achieve

the ability to run uprated rods.....

the ability to run uprated rods.....

I am lead to believe the std 1.3 bottom end is capable of 10k rpm (not that I'd recomend such practise)

What are you trying to achieve?

You cannot use 1300 pistons on smallblock XE rods as the pin is too big and the little end on the rod is usually lined
You can use 1400 8v pistons though with the uprated rods and original crank. You would need to overbore the 1300 block.
1300 rods are usually quite strong, I would just de-seam and shot peen them. The very early ones are the strongest.

For what reason, there is no gain from changing the rods unless lightened/balanced and with no other changes no increase in power/performance.

I am trying to help, I have a couple of reasonable output 1.3's myself;)

are you trying to make a 16v engine or an 8v engine?

If you want better rods get some steel ones, look up ds Motorsport on eBay im sure I was some on his shop for about 300 including arp's.

For a 1300?

No the 1400 xe. I reckon 1300 steel rods would be a special order nowadays.

Yeah i know thats why i asked if it was safe to bore out the 1400xe rods to take the larger pins

was wanting to use new rods seeing as im using new pistons and have them all balanced along with the crank and flywheel to try and get a smoother engine if you get my drift

8v mate

Yeah i cant find any source of 1300 8v rods, let alone aftermarket ones!

what capacity are you trying to get to? 1300 or 1400? is it for a competition class?

personally, as the gudgeon pin is an interference fit on the conrod, i't not recommend machining the rod end out, i'd say yes to sleeving the piston hole & maybe fitting a circlip, or maybe ringing a piston company to see if they'll make you some up.

staying 1300, never thought about sleeving the pistons, will probably give someone like sbd a ring to see what they think, Cheers :)

Think you will need deep pockets to get what you want.

Try Accralite, they make custom pistons for 'reasonable' money...once you have provided them with the dimensions you may find they already have something similar in stock

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you are looking for some new 1300 rods? Your unlikely to get any.... but you ought to take your existing rods and and deseam them and get them shot peened, like the ones below and fit them with ARP's. 1300's are used in lots of short oval racing eg stock rods rev up to 8500 quite regularly.

If you want new then I'd try someone like Martin Bowyer they may have some or be able to get some made.....

Seems the best bet without spending ridiculous money, Cheers garyc :)
