So I got bored and decided to freshen up the XE I've had sitting for years.

Question is, should I do the porus head fix with the hollow tube insert as a precaution ? The head is removed and no signs of emulsifaction ( sp ) of the oil and what coolant that was left in the block looked fine aswell,

Opinions please

Sorry I should have said its a vauxhall head,

I got some tube from bubba so I guess I'll be giving a bash then lol

Best not to leave it to chance then burgo? Just do it and forget it?

put it this way, how much is it going to cost you if/when it does crack and how much is it going to cost you to do it now?

True, I'm only just starting to play with big blocks so it's a learning curve,

I take it I need to drift the tube in past the head bolt hole and that's it?

Have a look at the guide I did a few years back...

If its not broken, don't fix it.

I've never had a GM head fail on me.

This. for the effort involved doing it with the head off on the bench you'd be silly not to do it. I've been told Re-torquing the head bolts is enough to disturb the gallery anyway.

Never looked at it that way John,

So is there any advantage between hollow sleeve insert or soild sleeve with external mod?

External mod is just providing more places for possible oil sepage. Internal all the way IMO.

Cool,

Thanks for all the replies :)

I'll do a preventative internal hollow insert.

takes a hole half hour to do when the heads out

rather than a full head removal when everythings in the car
