i was thinking of running lpg in a xe nova but most people on here poo poo'ed the idea apprantly there isint enought room in a nova to mount a half decent sized tank to make it worth whill

tj, have you noticed just how many dual fuel vauzhalls there are on eBay with knackered engines???

lpg just doesn't work that well on fast revving engines. its perfect for some shonky old engine in a forklift....

Plus unless you rebuild the engine with harder valves/seats, LPG will eventually eat them.

it has no inherent lubrication properties, petrol & diesel do, so lpg engines always knacker up.

False economy, and and all seemingly fantastic selling point

Valve seats get munched first though, strangely it eats inlets before exhaust too for whatever reason.

Exhausts always fail before inlets, because they get hotter, the microsecond that LPG hits an inlet before exhaust isn't exactly gonna make a massive difference in the lifetime of an engine, and the lubrication loss is relevant to both valves, given the overlap on the intake stroke.

Think about it? :p

As an LPG user......

LPG is certainly a harsh fuel, with poor lubricant properties and some engines are more suitable than others to run on LPG than others, wear valve train can be reduced with flashlube, or fitting harder valves/valve seats as mentioned

As Mowgli says it is perfect in shonky old engines my Range Rover Classic V8 has run on LPG for @ 8 years 65k mileslol, valve gear has been fine;)

I am considering a supercharged Range Rover next (no pennies at the moment) but JE recomend that the heads are changes due to valve wear (and their heads put an additional 50hp on the 400hp:d)

Maybe one day......

rover v8 heads are not the best for power.. the yanks continued with an iron block version & heads off them are way better...

the rover v8 is so under tuned, and built for low rev work, so it is probably perfect for lpg, i must be cos it wastes petrol like a bugger...

Don't I know it;)

Long term plan is possibly to take the engine to 5.2l and push the CR up to @11.0:1 CR (so I can run petrol/LPG~)

@ 12:1 is good for LPG (but neet a good ingition system), but pushing it to run on std petrol

12:1 and you could run corn methanol, like they do in brazil

or go for 14:1 & run avgas

or what about the prototype v8 diesel engine rover was working on??

"Iceberg" if I remember correctly

There's the 3.6 / 4.4 TDV8LR engine now, it also features possibly on my next vehicle shopping list

They are fast for what they are!

Ever been in a VW R50? Those with a remap are silly.
