Presume he means VSS as in speed sensor and if so they do have one. The 16v engines cut out without this wired in so would expect this one to be the same.

Mine never had one when I removed it from the donor and yea it tended to cut out

I had a Corsa SRi that liked to cut out, turned out to be the TPS.

Do a flash test and see if you get any codes, if your stuck on how to Google 'Top Buzz Fault Finding'
Gives a guide how to get the flash codes and a list of fault codes corresponding to engine code.

my tigra used to cut out when the cable snapped as the early ones were in the clocks im led to beleive as it 100%werent on the gearbox like fords are
