when getting a cam reground does it alter the lift as well as the duration?

less slightly lift longer duration

????

when you regrind a cam, as long as there is metal there, they will be able to mess with the duration a bit, but they actually take metal off the 'off' part of the lobe so in relative terms it will increase the lift, because the hydraulic lifters will take the slack up

im going to be fitting 288's from autosprint and just wondering about eh valve pockets on the pistons needing made deeper

best ask mr autosprint on that.. i thought you had to get a notch milled across the xe piston..

I've read that autosprints 288 cam dont need deeper pockets unsure how as everyone else's similar spec cams do apparently

jeff at autosprint his cams are low lift longer opening

which is the problem with regrinds, as you can only take so much off the base circle until the hydraulic lifters can't cope. All depends on budget though, compared to standard, they'll be a lot better.

Don't the 288 cams require solid liters not hydraulic

Nah the 288's are as high as you can go on standard lifters

I received an email back from Geoff

hi 288 are good, i , and customers , have not had to machine any*piston cut outs, but as with all* cams , clearences should be checked,* regards

Now to find someone that is using them to confirm as I don't wanna build it all up to find out I have to get it done

Mock the engine up and put some plasticine on the piston tops and turn over by hand and you can tell how close valves come to the pistons.

Sounds a long and drawn out, but it isn't that bad a job.

Check out mig mate I'm sure I've read of people on there running them

Yeah I've heard of the plasticine method I'll se what thier saying on mig

Why is it you want to run on bike carb mate if you don't mind me asking?

swedge

because i already have r1's on my 2.0 8v atm along with the megajolt ecu

basicly i have everything to get it running once its built up

Makes sense mate, did you have much trouble getting them running right with the engine as I've heard horror stories of poor running and even worse mpg lol

swedge

ive not drove it much but it seems to run spot on, pulls like a train lol

my afr gauge is reading about high 12's -13 most of the time

im running a megajolt ecu though so no dizzy

Sounds alright mate did you make up your own inlet manifold? I want to see this xe all built will be interesting to see what kinda power it makes

swedge

nah the inlet was the most expensive thing, mines is from bogg brothers and fited the head and carbs perfectly have a look in my project thread for some pics of it
