Ive got a chevette estate ive being assembling parts for for awhile.Ive got the saab 2.0 engine for it and omega gearbox.Just got to sort the sump out next.
I rekon the saab engine or the c18det is about best bang for buck. And dont forget you`ll have to 5 link the rear axle, piazza or scimitar axles are about the best with the jag powerlok lsd fitting the scimitar axle and being fairly cheap.

i say V8 or flat 6 it will sound ace!
I think a too "big" block is a little bit useless in this small and light chassy. My friend has a Kadett C with C20XE, but very hard to drive (with more gas) in straight line. Too heavy in front. Maybe a smaller engine (or max. a C20NE/SEH) with camshaft and carbs and of course a good running gear and it will be an awesome track car.

im going to keep a real close eye on this project as my mate who shares my lockup has a hatch chevette thats being 1800 zetec powerd on carbs. so it will be interesting to see how you do things.
volvo turbo from a 740/940

The lexus lump has been done into a chevette so it is possible.Strong as houses too and you can buy throttle body kits from usa pretty cheap. Its getting a manual box to go with it that costs around the grand mark that put me off.
autoworksnovasport
28-04-12, 07:41 PM
plan is the fully built car is going to cost a grand never mind a gearbox hahahaha
think about this.. the slant 4 was actually designed as half of a v8. the chevette was also part of a world car concept, and the chevette was made in oz, usa probably brasil, as well as in europe...
so a decent v engine will fit. look at bmw running gear, or even jag..maybe even vag stuff, but i think you need bits from the vwlt van to get a rwd box to fit.

also very large, and tbh, not very powerful compared to a lot of other engines..

got a rear window from mjwales thankyou
and got a manta axel to pick up this week from mantaowners.co.uk just tyring to find a 200sx now thats rotten and CHEAP
how much for the axle??? i thought they were rarer than a free blowjob
Why not break an omega for bits? X20XEV engines are very tunable now, only trouble is most are auto but i think i read somewhere they have factory fitted rear lsd, but could be wrong...

They do have an LSD as standard Jake. 2.5 v6 from omega with a manual box shouldnt be too hard to find either..

fair enough mate, are you after an sr20/sr20det then? or still ca18det?

It's a manta b axle then? If so they come up a bit wide for the chevette/kadett but you can get away with it. You will need the steel torque tube and to uprate the doughnut too. If its the manta a axle then fair play!
Will hopefully get this screen up to Chris's this week some point.
Im using a manta B axle on my chevette, as said abit wider.. but the wheels dont stick out that far to be honest. Think they were an inch wider each side compared to a chevette axle
