im taking my crankshaft and a mates c20let head up to the engineers tomorrow and was wondering about the flywheel

its for my c20xe im building and is a flat type

what should i get it lightened down to safely without it falling apart

swedge, just how thin do you want the ring gear to be??

the whole point of lightening a flywheel is meant to be taking weight from the outer part, and not the friction area.. its all about inertia, and the less weight further out, the better, but for a road car, i don't think its worth doing.

On a flat type flywheel you will struggle to remove enough material to make a significant enough difference to justify the cost on a road car

If you are really serious about it, save up and invest in a lightweight billet steel flywheel

Its good practice to skim to deglaze it only.
Dont even bother trying to lighten it,you could never balance it properly.

good practise on brakes dictates that you never put old linings with new discs/drums... i'd assume that its only worth touching a flywheel contact surface if you are sticking a new friction plate & cover one.

For around £150, get one from the guy on MIG if you can get hold of it.

Flat ones are 7kg iirc, you can go to 5kg min (again iirc) i had mine lighten too 5.5kg.

I think Autosprint lightened my flat fly to 5.5kg too.
