If money's tight why not tune the 1200 engine?
You could port the head , a cam of some sort and use a twin choke webber or bike carbs, when money is more abundant you could then look at bigger engine swaps, the 1400 small block works really well tuned and your earlier purchases would swap over to the bigger engine.

Save your pennies to fund something more worthwhile down the line. Tuning the 1.2 NOW is just pissing money into the wind if you are planning to swap for something meatier later.

buy a cheap engine (that you want 1.8 ect) and spend your money on that get it all built to the speck you want over time and then drop it in when money allows you to

I'd deffo chuck a 1.6 16v motor in there mate. performance inlet and a few other mods and you've got a nippy little motor for not a lot of cash

thats the way ive always done it but i like to buy in bits rebuild it all with new bearings gaskets etc that way i know its all been done

plus doing it this way means you arent buying everything at once which means it dosnt break the bank
