I'm in need of a new driveshaft for my 1500 td. However having never had one before I'm not clued up on them. Are the driveshafts any different to the usual small blocks? Or can I use one that's readily available?
The more info I get the better lol.
Allegedly some are 22 spline inners, i.e GTE XE conversion style ones, i.e expensive... long as you count the splines though they're no different.
I bought some TD shafts for mine, and they are indeed 22 splines.
Although I'm pretty sure the gearbox is small block, so as long as you got CV's to fit a small block you should be fine.

Wouldnt your 1.2 box fit the td lump thom?, As you have the shafts etc?
Any nova driveshaft will fit if It's a small block gearbox. ie f10/13

Yeah I believe it is a small block gearbox, I shall of course double check.
Cheers for the info guys, guess all I'll have to do is rip it off and count the splines to be sure haha.
@ Joey: I would use the shaft off my 1200 but then that would leave me without a useable car... :thumb:
they are small block boxes, but use the larger 22 spline GTE/GSI shafts.
what did yours have in it, mr vaux alot?
Just buy any old smallblock shaft 2nd hand, new CV's too if you wanna make sure all is spot on.

Sorry for the bump in this thread.
However I have finally got the drive shaft (or what is left anyways) out. It IS 22 spline... :/
Going to be fun to try and find now lol... Small block 22 spline driveshaft anyone??

/\ as said befor you can use any driveshaft as long as you have the corresponding cv joint to match.

Of which I don't and I don't know how to build them up...
Of which I don't and I don't know how to build them up...
Line (preferably new) CV joint up next to bare shaft, knock in until the circlip says "click" Done!
Taking them out is a little harder and involves putting your fingers in the greasy bit with a pair of pliers/screwdrivers/hammers depending on how frustrated you are at this point and opening up the circlip to slide them off.

As MK said its quite straight forward - a haynes manual might help?
I will add you need to put the rubber boot on the shaft prior to fitting the new cv though :)
Boot is part of the CV obviously lol
