Morning folks,

I am opening a small tyre sales company local to me and am looking for a set of second hand 2 post ramps, is there anything I should ask or look for when buying a set?
Is there anything that is common for going or needing replaced on them?

I know buying second hand isn't the best but it is all that funds allow just now, and once it's up and running I will be looking into buying new ones.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

David.:thumb:

Thanks mate, I will ask;)
The hardest part is keeping the price down:(
At the end of last year there was 2 x sets on gumtree for under £500
Now there is nothing under a grand.

one thing to bear in mind is the power source.

electro-hydraulic uses an electric motor to pump fluid to raise it, and to lower simple opens a valve to lower it - which requires no power

compared to full electric, where it's raised and lowered by 2 electric motors turning a screw in each post, which requires power to lower it. there's nothing worse than having a customers car (or your own) stuck on a lift due to a powercut etc. had this a couple of times at work with my 2 poster, and it's bloody annoying!

oh, and any with a base running on the floor between the posts will cause problems with lowered cars.

This happened to me on a Saturday when the ramp failed, had to get the missus to pick me up & wait til Monday to get it down :(

go hydraulic if you can as they last alot longer screw type wear out quiker and need parts replacing more often

so i found out whilst doing research when buying my ramps

oh and the small ramp is sold sorry if you were interested

Thanks for the advice lads,
Don't know much about them so things like if there is a power cut I need to be able to get a car back onto the ground so I will look into the ones that are not 100% electric ;)

Spoke to my mate earlier on, he got 2 2poster ramps for £750. Unfortunatly he is on the look out for another 4 ramps so you are currently 5th on the list will keep you posted on any i hear of.

Yeah Colin, I think 3phase will be better and my compressor is also 3 phase

a mate went self employed a few years ago, rather than buy a ramp he got one on lease!hydraulic type, not sure if its an option for you or not.

now the lease is up he owns it.
