I just got quoted £190 inc VAT for a full cambelt kit fitted including water pump for my misses X14XE Tigra. This includes a 1yrs guarantee for parts. Does this seem reasonable?

if no one tried to learn anything new we would still be living in caves.
And what if modern day life is just too time consuming or not cost effective to learn?
Ie Say someone has a stressful, time consuming job,the last thing you want to do is fart around on a night/weekend if its your daily.Or if you can earn more money doing your job than in the time it would take to learn??
At £190 hes paying £80- £100 labour or therabouts.

He's charging me £80 for the full cambelt kit, £30 for the water pump so about £80ish labour charge. No bad prices for parts being as he's putting a 12month guarantee on them. Btw I've done quite a few things on cars including cluthes etc just that no one has free time to show me how to do a cambelt (I think the Haynes manual is quite vague sometimes) If it was my own car I would attempt it but not the misses car.

**** doing a cambelt yourself, pay someone and go to kfc whilst its being done, without the stress of doing it yourself

not everyone is mechanically minded like you are mate, and attempting a timing belt is a daft idea unless you know what you're doing, or have ample time and resources to learn as you go along. them engines make a fair mess when you get the timing wrong lol

Well after having it booked in at the garage, the misses insisted that she wanted it booked in for next wednesday, well guess what - the water pump collapsed last night and its slipped the cambelt about a quarter of a turn. Ahhhh !!

Not everybody has the time,or the abilty.

I could have quite easily done the cambelt on my Vectra recently, however, i just do not have the time!! Hence paying my mate to do it for me.
