View Full Version : Fitted my new seats but Opinions needed
Hi
I've fitted my 60/40 rear seats, but the small side base sits too high.
I've found out it's this metal thing in the middle of the picture

Now hows the best way of going about it, do i:
1. bend it flat to the shell
2. cut it off so it leaves just the base where it welds to the shell.
Hows the best way to cut it off, i have a Dremal with little cutting disks and a grinding stone to smooth the cut,
Do i need any precourtions as its near the tank, with the dremal the metal gets warm but not hot.
Cheers
Also rear head rests yay or nay?
Any help would be great.

beat fuck out of it with a hammer... it will just snap off.... then just seal the 2 holes on the floor with some seam sealer/silicone

i've just done this AW3K. I just hit it with a hammer a few times to bend the 2 welds, then get mole grips and clamp then bend back and forwds till it snaps off, i havn't bothered sealing holes left over yet.
U'll find the 60/40 seats don't sit right back cause they have got 4 hinges at the front rather than 2.
I'm gonna get 2 strips of metal and weld/bend to make anotehr hinge type thing.

I went and got the hinges from a donor car.

Just drill out the welds and be carful not to kit the tank.
I think i'm gunna cut the thing off cos i don't want any more holes in the car !

your asking that and you will be welding in the rear seat brackets!!
theres no need to weld the hinges above in place unless you want secure seats (carrying passengers. I fashioned a bracket out of 2 old fence grip posts (c shaped bits of metal) - just bent one and slotted the ends of the seats through it then attached it to the other one and anchored it in the boot/spare wheel well - this secures the lower half of the seat. As for the missing hinges you can weld a bracket in place - I just drilled 2 small holes and used self tappers on some coat hanger wire. Watch out for the tank underneath. Thing is they come loose after a while.
I've been quoted ?50 from my local place to drop the tank and weld all the brackets,
is that a good price or should i just rivot em down?

lol i didn't say to drop the tank.... i just did mine with a hose on the go.... there is no need to weld the back bit just use the seatbelt bolt.....
then for the front ones get a hosepipe and soak the top of the tank while ur mate is welding in the brackets
Sorted.
I decided on the rivet way of doing it as i'm skint and it was easy to do.
Rivets and washers 2 on the top and 1 on the under side to strengthen the metal. I havn't bothered with the 4 front ones as it appears to be secure enough, and i don't know how much room there is behind between the tank.
