ok so ive got a whirring noise coming from my timing belt/alternator belt area

none of the belts are touching each other, could a belt be too tight and make that kinda noise

it gets louder with the revs, i have a video uploading atm

I have the same issue, gonna take my aux belt off later and see if the alternator is the issue, I really hope it is..

yeah im gonna try that too but i have to remove the whole pulley as i have a trigger wheel welded onto my pulley and cant get the belt off without removing it :(

My noise is a whirring and is particularly noticeable at idle, it seems to disappear once I build up the revs.. I'm just hoping it's not a water pump/idler

i have no idlers just the waterpump which is brand new, i think it could be just one of my belts too tight

Usually a sign of over tightened belt

No probs Royston

Swedge, is your timing belt auto tensioned?

I only got problems with my early E16 and 13SB due to water pump tension style

its the water pump that tensions it im just nipping out to slacken it off a bit and see what happens

was the timing belt too tight, just slackened it off a bit and the noise has gone

I have the same issue

Never thought it could be a overtight belt

Was thinking, alt, oil pump, water pump lol lets hope it's the belt otherwise I will be asking merris for a axe lol

Happened on mine... 13sb... Was timing belt too tight... Check the belt is tensioned on the water pump side to the same tension on the cam-to-crank side.. You will more than likely find its too tight.. Just back the water pump off and job done

It was definitely the belt it's silent now with no dump valve noise lol have a look in the videos section for my other video sounds like I have a dump valve
