View Full Version : Info on setting gears with the pin/drill method?
I'm struggling to get 2nd occationally but not always, its worse when coming down the gears, iirc someone said about putting a pin or drill bit in both ends to set it correctly.
What can anyone tell me on the subject please?
simply follow haynes, cos thats all we do...
but you could have bother with a synchro or the linkage joints could be worn
I normally just set it dead middle and dead middle at both ends, it's easier than messing with drill bits and 9 times out of 10 the slop in a nova linkage means far left neutral is not where it was 20 years ago. also really simple to reset if it's out, you just tap it a touch either way.
I wish I had a haynes but I'm too tight to buy one lol, I should of said this is after an engine swap and hasn't just happened over night, I tried the dead centre thing and the forward to back is great just seems like the need to move to the right slightly
So move it to the right slightly? lol

F20?
lol had a nightmare with mine. Followed the drill method...(4.5mm drill bit in the turret. Find neutral between 1st and 2nd, line up the marks inside the gearstick housing inside the car, tighten pinch bolt and job jobbed)
However, i did the above and had no 5th. Re adjusted, still nothing. Trimmed about 5mm off the white plastic at the bottom of the gear stick, and found it. Until i went above 40 mph, i had 2 3rd gears! Had my mate sit in the car and we had about 3 or 4 attempts and got it in the end. Worn linkage didnt help, so bushes will be replaced asap.
Thanks all, I'll have a play on Monday
Problem is you can't get new bushes for Nova linkage any more, last year I did a Corsa/Nova linkage hybrid which let me use all the Corsa bushes and you can get them new from Vauxhall, worked great and linkage wasn't sloppy any more
I'll make a DIY guide one day if I get time
