after breaking the sport, and being bored, i set of around a pals house who i sold this to many moons ago, back in the day eight grand was spent by myself doing this up to how it was..
i sold it to a mate for £4k, and it looked like it had been sat in the atlantic with the titanic, rotted out worse than an uno turbo lol, but still, it had a sentimental value, and to me was worth saving
i handed over £1300 in total because alot of work needed doing, and got my mate to drop it round..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0887.jpg

once parked up in the garage, had a good strip down, and went shopping at machine mart, and brought a clarke 135te mig welder, and mask
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0888.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0898.jpg

500 cutting discs, 10 tubes of sticker flex, under sill, and some crap colour match hammerite blue paint, and set to work

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0900.jpg

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0891.jpg

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0897.jpg

my welding skills are not the best in the world, but none of what ive done is seen and is covered up by the kit, so nothing a bit of old sticker flex cant hide, then tar it up, hey presto..

How long before it blows oil out of all the breathers/turbo seals go/head gasket fail ? lol

And wtf is the m25 ' ring' sticker doing one the boot ffs lol

Alex J
05-04-12, 09:48 AM
next job was get on the blower to black circle tyres, and ordered some new dunlop sp sports..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0904.jpg

a full service was needed, tracing the oil leak back to having a sump plug fitted with no copper washer lol

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0896.jpg

and then going to start to refurbish up the compomotive rims up...

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0901.jpg

the engine is as mint as when it was built bu BB perfomance tuning, and was all new about 5 years ago, so a good service is all it needs, and a polish up!

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0902.jpg

this is my favorite bodge, sticker flex the body kit back on, best stuff ever invented lol..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/DSCF0903.jpg

going to crack on with the other side sill next week, and give the cream leather a good valet, need to sorce a drivers rear arch and petrol flap as i got the hump and ripped it of with raged because as normal with a renault, everything rots on, and snaps of, bit like a vauxhall really lol

Alex J

How long before it blows oil out of all the breathers/turbo seals go/head gasket fail ? lol

And wtf is the m25 ' ring' sticker doing one the boot ffs lol

i had a few stickers back in the day, mostly on the work van, and the turbo should be ok as its a t28 roller bearing , and its got a group A headgasket set and bolts built in with the rest of the engine build, i still have the slip from santa pod were it ran a 13.1 quarter on cheap korean tyres!

Always had a soft spot for the R5. Wheels have got to be worth nearly what you paid for it I reckon!

You absolute legend!!!! r5gtt are Ubar cool, I take it the welding didn't affect you then ,class project I will be keeping a eye on this

Alex J
05-04-12, 10:25 AM
Always had a soft spot for the R5. Wheels have got to be worth nearly what you paid for it I reckon!they are the right offset and drilled for the car, i drove up to Primea Racing up north to get them at the time i first had the car, they came of one of there tarmac spec renault 5 cup cars, i paid £350 for the set about 6 years ago, a fair price i thought

I take it the welding didn't affect you then

it hasnt yet lol, i have worn the mask even just to do any tacks, just to be on the safe side

Benn
05-04-12, 10:05 PM
Love the rims. But 1.4 and it needed that welding? Seems crazy to spend that much... Good man at doing it your self.

Andy
05-04-12, 10:11 PM
You may think its crazy, but in 10 years time that will be worth more than any nova

Benn
05-04-12, 10:23 PM
Yeah? They really holding their value? (haven't seen one for sale in a while)

Spudly
05-04-12, 10:46 PM
Edd yes its a Raider, think personally the wheels should be body coloured as per factory (i think) spec and would look a million times better imo:thumb:

Awesome project mate, a friend of mine had 3 of those over the years, 1 was a wide arch Dimma model, properly quick cars for what they were.

Andy

Yeah? They really holding their value? (haven't seen one for sale in a while)

Good ones most certainly are.
And as good ones get rarer, the prices are getting higher...

Alex J
06-04-12, 09:01 AM
a good gtt goes for well over 5 grand, ive seen two go for over 7k in the last few months:eek:, im going to try and keep this as its as rare as a sport, and once its on the road should only owe me including buying the welder about £2200 max, so if i did sell it, a large profit again could be hadlol
andy, i maybe going on hoilday at the time of the french car show, but if i do go, im up for the burger eating challange all daylol, this renault is the only one i ever owned that dosnt have any orange lawn mower wire hard wired into it lollollollol
and spud, i cant get it out the garage yet as its in a million pieces and on axel stands, im burnt to bits, and have fabricated inner and outer sills, floor pan, a curved inner boot splash gaurd, rear panel, bumper mounts the lot, even had to go hospital to have a piece of rot removed from my eye with a neddle, ****ing killed lol

Alex J
06-04-12, 09:30 AM
so its a propper raider mr merris ?its a real raider, says it on the logbook, bit like a sport really, nothing special over any other model, minus it has black carpet, a raider sticker in the back window, and little blue stickers on the doors with blue centre wheels , still the same power etc!

well after draining the old fuel out, fitting the new turbo, filling two jerry cans with super, at almost a tenner a can, fuels a ****ing rip off, it started, and moves under its own steam, only thing s left to do is have a scratch done on the drivers door, and have a new cat 1 alarm and imob fitted..

the finished product..

so when are you breaking it???

i wouldnt need to break it if i was going to sell it to make profit unlike a nova, they only sell in parts to ever make a profit.

i knew it was a year, and my year is up on the 22nd of may, you also can apply two months in advance of the year, i left it untill last week to apply as to not jinx it, plus at the price of fuel and still not working im in no rush lol,and lastly ive booked a week away when its due back. although i have got a job to go back to once , or if i get it back, fingers crossed, may have to take a dvla medical, but im cool with that. i love riding my push bike more than anything these days! never in a traffic jam lol

well ive been a bored dealing with waste men on ebay , so thought id do a bit more to the ****ter...

got some new wheel bolts to replace the 4 locking wheel nuts on each wheel as i could get the right length bolt at the time..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/wheelbolt003.jpg

finished faffing around with the exhaust..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/wheelbolt010.jpg

and couldnt find any centre caps for the wheels are they are drilled straight threw from the hub, and found these audi s4 ones for 7 quid delivered, better than nothing i guess..

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/alex_merris/wheelbolt012.jpg

im going to keep it for a while now as selling it isnt worth the hassle even though its up to £3600 on ebay, id rather let it rot in the garage for a bit...
