now i'm not sure about the continent with opel, but why is vauxhall always seen as been slightly chavvy?

now i know that the nova had a bad image through boy racers and poorly modified examples but fiesta, 5's, clios and golfs etc have had the same modifications. I just dont get it.

i am probably been biased but just wondered what you lot think?

I think its a load of bollox, being that vauxhall have been making cars for decades and the word "chav" has been around since around 2004

I dont see Vauxhall alone being seen as chavy.. I think its just the cars

For me its corsas, pug 106's, saxos etc.. I think pretty much every manufacturer has a "chavy car" in its range... purely because they are cheap for the new young drivers..

for example when the new saxo came out, it came with a years free insurance.

A lot more charvas drive Vauxhalls thats why.

Take our recent Vauxhall meet on Sunday for example, you walked around and all you can smell is green and see people wearing track suits, I bet it wouldn't be like that if you went to a Honda meet.

Vauxhall as a marque and it's origins is as chav as Rolls Royce. If it weren't for the first world war we'd probably need to be much richer to buy one as they used to make high end luxury cars like a Roller.

I think, as mentioned, it's certain aged drivers, what they do and how they drive them which has given them a 'chav' reputation. In Europe as far as I have seen they seem to have a slightly different (better) reputation.

Just don't worrie about it I don't, I wear what I want, I own what ever dog breed I want and drive what ever I can afford/want, life is to short to care if other people think there better then you, just let them crack on with it.

I'd say it's more of a case of how you act and your attitude that makes you a chav and not what you wear or what dog you have on a lead.

good points by all. its just something that bugged me as vauxhall, ford, citroen, peugeot, renault etc all sell for similar prices but general consensus (by my circle of acquittance's) is that they are chavvy or boy racer cars.
i'm not gonna lose any sleep over it though.

Vauxhall FTW

My cav is well chav http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/chav.gif

It's just the small hatchback thing really - Novas, Corsas, Saxos, Rernault 5's. Anything small and crap is chav, hence why the 205 GTi isn't really so 'chav', as they weren't too bad a car to start with lol

Then there's the price. Neds will spend less on the car so they have some spare dole to spend on the wikidy bo mods; again with most vauxhalls being cheap...

True, only the crappy cheap as chips twelve doors on a K plate etc though, well worth £1200 for a summer of honing mind! Type R/RA's, P1, WR1, UK300, Hawkeye/Bugeye models etc etc arent as there not so cheap at all.

To put it into perspective though, £679 FC for me (26, points, claims etc) in a Beruit postcode on a £7k Type R Import with usual mods (wheels, coils, exhaust system, front mount, induciton) is appealing for anyone considering Im currently paying £500 FC on a 05 Corsa C SRi CDTi with 99hp thats totally standard. Rest is down to the owners taste in modifying really.
