ok so heres my idead

ive just bought a timing light with the advance feature on it, as you know im running megajolt ignition and can alter the adance the engine puts out

so the base map im using atm is 10 degrees advance at idle (900 revs approx)

i want to make sure my trigger wheel is set up in the correct position exactly so my idea was to try this, i can put an offset of +/- 5 degrees

place a mark beside the crank pulley and another one on the crank pulley directly next to each other (will probably mark the crank sensor)

hook up the timing light to plug 1 and set the advance to 0 on the gun

shine it on the pulley and see where the marks are, adjust the knob on the gun untill the lines match up and hopefully it says 10

if not i can then adjust the offset in the megajolt software

correct or am i doing it wrong lol?

Your trigger wheel should point at the missing tooth at TDC?

yeah it should but id like to check it all with a timing light to make sure its spot on

don't you just stick a piece of wire thru the spark plug hole on #1 cyl & turn the crank back & forth till it is a tdc... then line the trigger wheel up.

are your original factory timing marks are still there? they should be at 10deg btdc

yeah but if i use the timing light ill be able to get my trigger wheel perfectly set to the degree

swedge, printing off some 360 degree protractors off google & sticking them on the pulleys then measuring the timing of the trigger wheel when it is static will be a load more accurate than trying to time it dynamically

Not had a chance to do this yet but was thinking wot I get double the readings of what it is due to the wasted spark system?

please static time it for a start.

ok i think i already know the answer to this but does the timing light have to be used with the crank pulley? can it be used on the cam pulley?

swedge, as long as it has 2 timing marks, you can shine the light on pretty much anything. The issue with the camshaft is that it runs at 1/2 the speed of the crank, but it should still strobe up ok. But as you are trying to set up the crank sensor, i suggest you stick woth measuring off the crank to get it right in the 1st place. You could then put marks on the cam pulley

I have it setup pretty much bang in I think but would lik to check it with the strobe light
