Basically putting a new cambelt waterpump and tensioner on my engine and unsure weather the tensioner should be that close to the belt ? have i got it on wrong ? ive timed it up and turned it over by hand 4 rotations, the belt is tensioned perfect and the timing is cock on, nothing to worry about ?

Is it just me or is the tension-er fitted wrong.
Should it not be 180 deg turned with the metal pin in the 2nd photo in the recess at the back of the engine

yeah i think it should. that metal tag is like a locator and should sit into the block

the metal tag pictured should fit in a lug (hole) in the oil pump ;)

Assuming its a c16 oil pump and has the cutout, early ones wont have.

use a qtb192 timing belt and do away with the tensioner, then use the water pump to tension the belt.
