areet lads quick question if i may.

just put a 1.4 8v carb engine in my 1.2 spi nova, using all the normaly wires.

it was starting off the key at first but burnt the starter over after a few turns, so changed the starter and all was good intill i tryed to drive home, didnt even drive a mine asnd the starter wires from the battery caught alite.....my question is why?? lol any help would be appreciated as ill be fixing it tomorow.

is it the standard size cable? any frayed parts? all earths ok?

you have a fatal short on the loom near the solenoid as a guess.

Are you using the 1.4 8v positive cable that goes (from memory battery-alternator-starter)?

Could be alternator fault, or a loose wire, or engine earth strap fault ...

Post up a pic - may be easier

if the starter wire is burning when you try to turn it over, it is a short. you have got it wired wrong

possibly ignition switch?? had a fault on my mates gte rebuild/project the other day.12v at ign crank 12v and stayed 12v! took the switch apart and cleaned it up, all ok again but going to replace it anyway. beware of springs!

its the live from the battery to the starter, the other live that goes to the alternater is unburnt but is on the same loom....i think the starter could of possible stuck on?? is the 1.4 starter as the 1.2 burnt out after a few turns.

if that makes sence...iuf not il go back my head of the wqall a few more times

would it be louder than an exsaust with no gaskets? lol
