On my 1.3, with a pierburg, rally car there is a hose returning fuel to the tank. Given this is a competition only vehicle is it really needed? Can I do away with it without suffering any issues? Just about to replace all the fuel lines and I dont want to shell out on teflon hose and fittings for the return if I dont need too!

Where you planning on the returned fuel going? Pull it off the carb and see how much comes out...you will be surprised

does the pierburg carb twin choke have a return? or is it a spare on the tank?

then bite the bullet & get some return pipe.

oh, & re your sudden power loss issue that fixed itself, there is meant to be a small strainer where the fuel feed pipe joins the carb.

Right so looks like it is needed then, thanks for the replies guys.

Mowgli yes aware of the strainer, but I think the blockage was upstream of that so simply not getting enough fuel into the carb.
