currently got a X16XEL with X16XE ecu etc.. its got a k&n panel filter in a deresticted air box, polished TB, vx inlet, stainless 4.1 exhaust mani, de-cat and exhaust... its well servied and a pretty strong engine for what it is...

what would be the next steps to get a bit more power without killing it and spending a fortune?

i was thinking along the lines of 1.6 8v fly and clutch and while im on stiffen up the rubber mounts and quick linkage but im in two minds weather im bored of it or not :tard:

plays with my mates standard engine corsa c 1.8 sri quite well :) without speeding obviously

any help or ideas is appreciated

or mappable ecu

how much could i get it mapped for you think? would that mean raised limit as i'd need arp's on the bottom end

the trouble is that you have pretty much covered the cheap mods, and everything from here onwards is pushing 4 figures

Mantzel inlet? Or similar? They quote 10 to 20 bhp improvements

Edit just read vx inlet sorry.

Yeah next is really as mowgli says. Cams, and a map

think your rite mowgli... dont really want to chuck money i haven't really got into an engine that gets used daily

would i feel much gain from a 1.6 8v fly and clutch and strenghtend mounts though??

strengthened mounts will only stop the engine falling out sooner

but a properly lightened flywheel will possibly give you a small gain, but only for track use, as to do it right, the ring gear needs thinning down & daily driving one will soon eat it..

this is part of the reason i want to hahaa, ask danny s p, sure he'll tell you of the time of him screaming and grabbing my handbrake as the engine scraped the concrete haha

'Competition' engine mounts are well worth it IMO, although in fairness this is usually because they are replacing shot GM items so the handling difference is huge. It would be less so over brand new GM mounts but still gains to be had.

Be warned though...they can, and do cause bolts to loosen off over time with the additional vibration

the original small block rh mount had a steel strap bolted underneath...

my 1.2 actually snapped its rh mount when i was driving home from a pub & the cam cover resting against the inner arch held it, but it was a shaky drive back

how much do you want to spend? ive got a 5mile old helix clutch for nova/corsa flat flywheel for sale from breaking my engine, linch had most of the parts and also got a mahcined and balanced flywheel knocking around.

need budget though as without that people are guessing at what you can afford

You could always turbo it, its do able on a budget if you get the parts used off ebay. Corsa vxr turbo bolts on, but you will need to relocate the oil filter

budget of around 50-100 here and there and as and when... just like everything with my car.
i dont have a great income but i like to think my cars as good as it can get for the money i spend on it haha

..and no, seen one turbo'd and know what you mean but not for me thanks

whats your rev limit?

Southie

It will be 6800 Rich with it being standard ;)

it seems a tad higher than that tbh mate... id say 7k maybe a touch more... although when i had the ecu to bits one day there was no chip inside or anything so god knows... maybe just inaccurate clocks

Rev limit on the X16XE is 6600, on the XEL and C16XE it's 6500. It can be adjusted using Tech2 but no info on by how much. Here's a grab from TIS:

If you're seeing higher on the dash, then it's the clocks. It's the way the analogue clocks work that make it this way.

My old C16xe revved to 7200 and was still pulling but that did have a raised limiter from Mantzel due to the inlet fitted.

Get it on the rollers and see what the power curve is like. Its likely to still be climbing at the rev limiter, so thats when a raised limit will help you get a bit more from it.
My old x16xe made 127bhp at the rev limiter, would of done more obviously with a higher limiter.
