Iv tried the search but I cant really find much info at all on these :/

All iv found is that there pretty much the exact same to fit as the 1600?

But what tuning options have people gone for other than bike carbs etc

And being smallblock is there much weight difference in-between the 1800 and Xe?

try corsa-c.co.uk; many small block 1.8's modified there, inparticular warren g's corsa b and mike's corsa c. Lee303 and myself have them in novas.

Yes same fit as 1600/1400/1200.

all the mentioned people are using ITB's/programmable engine management. No one i know is using bike carbs. Warren g turbo's these though, as a service.

Itll be the same sort of weight as any small block valver. So a lil lighter than any big block. c20xe included. z22se excluded, maybe, lol.

in short, what puts people off using the std management?

The thing is I just want something that will be relatively cheap to do and not have to mess up my shell trying to fit the engine!

Iv got a complete xe kit in the garage lol with shafts hubs etc..

I just can't justify breaking my xe cav as it's a perfect daily/family car.

V6 let xe smallblock x16 all ask for at least £200 with xxx miles on them, iv found and x18 for £150 with a genuine 50kms on the clock,

I see it as a more reliable way to go with the car :)

as long as its the x18xe1; then no problem using o.e management, as with x14/x16 just needs immob skipping past i believe.
Look at' warren g's garage' thread (corsa-c.co.uk) hes transplanted x18xe1's into corsa b's keeping o.e management.

But yeah the engines are plentyful, not too old and cheap as youre finding. I say sell the big block fitting kit, keep your cav and at £150 the x18xe1 youve seen could be a bargain. Just check its not the x18xe. Which is a big block.

Im assuming bike carbs and megajolt would be the easiest way around the ecu problem?

I have no clue about megajolt at all thow so I'm stuck there lol

If it's the same as the x16 it should be just a case of ecu keychip and transponder right?

yeah true i have seen tom's thread on MIG he's planning to, bit early stages at the moment yet though aint it..? though the putting one onto an 8 valve bottom end interests me most.
i dont know about bike carbs; im not a fan.
But yes, im pretty sure thats all there is to it. Dave franczak did this many moons ago too, thread lost in archives now though.

2 of the 3 engines are built just modifing the sumps on the 16v's for the manifold
