View Full Version : c14se problem
had a fone call of the g/f tonight saying her car is just reving flat out lol
she got it home now ive had chance to look at it and
when you go to start it it just revs straight to 5k ??? knock it off try again and the same :wtf:
done the push clock button mod to flash the codes
it came up with
171
169
any idea's or info would be great :thumb:
Sounds like either the idle valve is stuck open or a vac pipe has come off letting air into the inlet.
all vacums look tidy but it was dark buddy
how many vacums are on a c14se?
Take the idle control valve out the end of the tb, will be held in with 2 torx bolts clean it carb cleaner or something similar
cheers swedge
take these are common for icv to play up are they buddy
Most times when the idle plays up its to do with the icv they get covered in crud and stick sometimes
Check your vaccum pipes for splits too and aroun the inlet, spray some wd40 aroun where the inlet gasket is while te cars running I've the revs change you have a leak where you sprayed it

i would say the icv take out clean and measure it (cant remember the measurement of the top of my head think its 29mm)
should tell you in haynes how to set it
cleaned the ICV valve up, put it together and still the same??
is the icv surposre to move or make a click noise?
should move when it's runing, it's just a stepper motor on a plunger.
are all vacuum pipes in good order? original hose is sh*t, there are 2 off the plenum, and 2 off the TB iirc
edit: servo pipe connected? lol
lol servo pipe connected lew lol
when you hold you hand over the TB while its running it should cut out ya?
this dont f lol think its broke lol
sound like inlet may have a crack or something
certainly has an air leak then, just spray brake cleaner around the whole intake and see where it faulters.
ive ripp the inlet off now lol
tb gasket didnt look the best
neither did the inler gasket
can you still but the TB gasket?
thanks
gasket paper or cornfalkes packet and a ball pein hammer ftw lol
lol john
take it you cant buy the TB gasket then
I'm unsure tbh chap, Might be worth a call to your local dealer in the morning :)
Knowing vauxhall probably not, DIY gasket is easy enough to make lik John said with some cardboard and a small hammer lol
why a hammer f lol
ive just it out in past f lol
pikey motor's FTW lol
Lightly tapping the edge with a ball pein "cuts" the gasket perfectly. Or you can use scissors lol
Lay the cardboard down where you need the gasket then tap around the edge with the hammer which cuts the gasket for a perfect match
:thumb:
hope this will sort it now :)
does the c14se need to have the water cool'd tb? or can it be by passed?
They can be bypassed on all engines, not going to make any difference to your current problem though lol
FWIW You should still be able to get the proper gasket from Vx as the C14 derivatives were used for a good while after the Nova.
f lol i know it aint going to solve the prob lol
il give the main stealer's a ring in the morning

"awaits the usual, you need to buy 10 at a time crap lol"
changed inlet gasket n TB gasket
checked all vac lines 2 on TB , 1 on inlet.....all fine
checked TPS n ICV and still goes staight to 5k when started
could it be ecu related?
when it start doing she said was was in 3rd flat out and revs never came down since that lol bloody women
Throttle cable sticking maybe?

Maybe the throttle has totally stuck open and isn't returning due to loads of gunk inside it.
tb is cleaned out
cable moves freely
butterfly aint stuck as tha moves freely to
when its reving the butterfly is closed
would the crank senor or ecu give this problem?
thanks

when its reving the butterfly is closed so when you put your hand over the inlet it stalls? If not you've still got a massive air leak somewhere.
still trys to rev john
but at 5k would it stall ?
At 5krpm and your hand over the inlet you should be able to hear the air leak tbh chap. No air going into tb and no air leak = stall.
Can i suggest wearing a pvc/rubber glove, or putting a large rag over the inlet to avoid possible injury
Pie, are you sure she hasn't left her handbag on the throttle? lol
seriously, is the throttle cable ok?
lol mowgli cable moves freely (has always been stiff on it)
day get better now the litle screws tha hold the icv have snapped as they been in n out so much fuking ggrrreat f lol

i feel your pain mate mine done the exact same lol had to drilla nd re-tap them

I wouldn't use a glove in case it sucks it in. A rag like you say, or a nice flat piece of rubber mat :)
i did mean one of these

i'm thinking of the sudden vacuum that stopping the airflow to a 1400 at 5k would cause, and skin isn't that strong..
dont know yet john aint had chance to drill n tap the screws out lol
hoping to get in done in morning
