View Full Version : Flushing engine with diesel?

Been told to quieten the hydraulic lifters down on my XE, an old trick was to drain the oil, refil the engine with afew pints of diesel, let it tick over for afew minutes, drain the diesel out of the block and put new oil in? Frankly this sounds crap but been told it sometimes works because the diesel is so thin, it cleans the crap out of the lifters and rees them up? but surely running your engine with no oil is suicidal? :wtf:

iv done it on a few old cvh engines with good results ?

Noisy xe lifters need replacing or stripping, nopikey sport derv will work..

As Stu said, its a take apart and clean job. Or replace the lot.

I cleaned everyone of mine and they are silent now even on a cold start after 6month lol

Good plan, I'd also run it up on a dyno to really clear them out, and makes sure you wind the load up so it really pushes it through those pesky lifters.

They'll never tap again when the engine seizes solid

For £130 new is it really worth fookin about with? Just keep away from girls Dave and buy some in a few weeks when your back on your feet

Replace them with x20xev ecotec ones.Lower milage and so much more readily available in scrapyards.
