View Full Version : How to tell if the 2nd butterfly opens on 2e3 carb

Maybe it's just me but I don't feel that slight surge of power I get at higher revs in the SR.

How can I check that the 2nd butterfly is opening at a given revs?

if ur runnin an overhead filter remove it and while lookin into the carb rev the engine not exactly sure what the revs are that it opens up but it is the higher end of the rev range. hope this helps

Running the standard filter mate.

I had a similar issue recently. Try putting some marker pen on the butterfly, go for a drive if it s gone the butterfly is opening. ALso try sucking on the actuator pipe so see if it opens and stays open under vacuum. Its worth staying carb cleaner through the pipe into the carb body as well, just to make sure the vacuum holes are not clogged up.

That's an idea, carb cleaner through the vacuum pipe. What if I watch the actuator and rev it? The marker is a decent idea but dunno if anything will fit down the opening.

the 2nd barrel won't open up just revving stationary, it needs the full vacuum from load whilst driving to open, and mine only opens after about 4000 rpm, the marker idea is what I did and it works a treat.

I see. I guess I need to find a skinny marker then.

ahh must be diff for me as i block the dizzy vacuum and also pipe up the the vacuums differntly to standard. i can get my second choke to open by just giving it hard revs, but it is set up for racing

Don't wanna set up for racing :) just wanna know if it's working :d

dvd/cd pen does the trick, when i was testing I actually took the ink bit out the pen so I got a big thick mark
