View Full Version : Some newbie questions....
ok am on the hunt for a Nova GTE/GSI but have a few questions which am sure you will know the answers to...
1. Are panels still available to buy - either from Vauxhall or pattern parts?
2. Where is the best place to try and find a Nova GTE/GSI to buy?
3. Can you still get classic car insurance for a nova if it has had a 2 litre engine installed? If not then who would be the best broker to approach for a quote? (Got a quote for a Nova GSI standard, was 150).
4. For dealing with rust and rot, are there kits available to buy to patch up wings etc?
5. Will someone please sell me their nice Nova lol
Thanks guys
Kevin
welcome to png
1. opel classic parts & german ebay for difficult bits.... or local parts suppliers / hadrian panels for common pattern stuff, or our lovely parts for sale section
2. best of luck on that one really...
3. read our insurance section for ideas
4. there aren't really patch up kits, thoght a shell strengthening kit from harry hockley or similar is a good idea
5. see 2.

Ollie from Sky Insurance is also a member on here (look for the username Skyinsurance, usually found in the Insurance forum!) - if you send him a PM with your info and a phone number he can arrange a callback and quotation
lol @ sky.com
what a 'tard
edit : he could try sky.com, doubt he would get very far though!
Thanks for the replies, good to hear there are panels out there, not so good to hear I am going to struggle in finding a nice GTE/GSI!!

There are plenty of nice gte/gsi reps about mate and at the age the cars are getting and how bad they rusted its more then likely your best bet getting a rep that has been built with love and care rather then a rotten gte/gsi original

Totally disagree there,a "rep" is worth base model money only plus a few bits and you will never insure a rep on a classic policy, nor will you insure a 2.0 as its heavily modified and afaik most wont cover engine conversions on a classic policy.
If i was to ever own another nova,i would buy a genuine Gte or Gsi.Bollox to reps,i could do one of them myself!
A genuine Gsi or Gte already has all the sought after/overpriced difficult to find parts.
All depends on how much you want to spend.
Aye am up for suggestions, I do wonder how a rep would be to insure?

Most probably more than the original

Slapping a 2ltr in a original gte/gsi now WILL only reduce the value of the car so why bother buying one and converting it

No am wanting a GTE/GSI and want to keep it standard (might do some subtle upgrades such as brakes, suspension), not wanting to transplant.

1, As said try ebay.de or Opel classic parts. Sometime panels come up one here.
2, GTE's and GSi's seem to be few and far between these days. Again, scour the FS ads here, MIGweb etc. lol dare i say it ebay! But ALWAYS go and view, confirm the usual problem areas (battery tray, boot corners...etc)
3, The policy i have just taken out on my Nova is a classic policy. Its with HIC. It was originally an SRi (C14SE 1400 8v engine) it now has a C20XE 2.0 16v engine.
4, Repair kits are available. lol replacement panels or make your own!
5, See 2.

Thats what i reckoned too,i had a c20xe for my gte but then got offered the e16se,glad its the 1.6 thats going back in to keep it standard
Thanks guys, am sure a nice Nova will come up eventually, its good to hear there are still plenty of enthusiasts here.

Hogman with out being rude what kind of budget would you be playing with
mine is insured as a 1.0 that has been uprated to gte running gear, on a second car limited mileage classic policy for about £250
confused.com with performance direct
whats your buget mate
mine may be for sale soon??????????
Am in a fortunate position to not have a set budget, its really the car, its condition etc, so am open to ideas.
mine is a full gsi rep with a 2.0 xe on a classic policy , i did reshell a rotten gsi into it though , costs me £360 with hic 3k miles and a 3k agreeed value
