been having running problems with my gsi left it at garage and they told me head gasket is well gone. they said fit a new engine as the bores could possibly be damaged? how can i tell and r they talking out there ass?

Check to see if there is oil in your expansion tank, take the lid off of the oil filler and see if there is any white residue on the back of the cap.

If that fails Get a compression test done on your head.

Lift the head off and have a look at honing.

Engines are cheap for these cars and readily avalible ( :lol: )

For the sake of 2-3 hours fitting one sometimes it can be quicker to swap the complete engine than trying to trace faults and replacing parts all the time.
