My mates punto has got a problem...

When he hits around 70mph or over his steering wheel vibrates, real bad.

Some people say its his tracking, some his balancing, some his bearings and someone has said its a distortion in the wheels.

They're 17's.

He has had his tracking sorted. It still vibrates really bad.

I think something to do with either a drive shaft or CV joint?

His gearbox and clutch recently needed replacing, but it still is really bad.

Its a mk2 punto by the way, 1.2 8V.

Any idea's, please help!

it could be the wheel balancing. Try another set of balanced wheel and see how it goes.

The thing is, when he bought thwe wheels, they were balanced. Done cus they were anew set. Its got spacers on the front and not on the back if that may be a problem?

take it to a specalist place and get them blanced on the car.

I had virtually the same problem a few years ago on a MK5 orion.
We changed all the following trying to rid the vibration.

Engine mount
Ball joint
Track rod ends
Bushes
Wheel bearings
Wheels

Ended up it was the driveshaft gone.

Would Fiat replace the driveshafts on warranty, if it was going to be the driveshafts...

It clunks when he reverses sometimes, sounds like a CV joint to me, but, I'm not an expert...

That'll teach you to buy a ford Ben...

Had car for a while now though, thanks to my dad.

Wouldn't let me have anything below an SR, wanted me to get GTE for my first car, but I decided I wouldn't be able to afford petrol.

Insurance aint my prob coz he pays it...

Yeah, I can get a webber carb too, for just ?25... Better performance, or better efficiency.

I passed my test ten years ago, since then ive had,

850cc Mini,
MG Metro Turbo,
Rover 214 SLi
Peugeot 306 XRDT
Vauxhall Cavalier V6 CDX
Vauxhall Astra SRi
Vauxhall Nova GSi (x2)

Few shamefull ones in there but non have been a major pain except the Rover which snapped its cambelt in a big way.

And the Punto will most likely be balancing. But check if they are needed that the wheels have the correct spigot rings with them to adapt the centre bore or they might be mounted off centre.

Would a webber 32/34 carb be better performance or efficeincy. I'm getting one with inlet manifold and K&N for ?40...
