right then seeing as i've got a little bit more motivation and a lot of junk lying around i've decided to actually start something, after a little bit of research i've decided to cobble together an half decent small block motor,

i've got a 1400spi bottom end and 12st head but have a few things im not sure about, 1- i'm unsure as to what carb would be 'best to use' so to speak
2- i know i could use the standard or 13sr cam but what other cams would be suitable ie ast2 etc (i have zero knowledge about stuff like that)
3- exhaust mani, again i know i could use a 13sr item but what aftermarket items are recommended

I'd say for reasonable running fit a weber 32\34 DMTL carb on a 1300 inlet manifold.

The 12st or 1300/1400 carb will both work ok, the 1300/1400 one will be better

the 1.3 cam is better than the 1.2 cam.

You can use the 1300 4-2-1 or the gte 4-2-1

with some porting & maybe some bigger valves, the 1200 head would then be ready for some 40's which is how to really get some power from this engine

wouldn't the weber require an adapter plate?

im glad the standard stuff is more than up to the job, with the head im going to look into opening up the ports to match the gasket but as funds will be limited it might have to be a DIY job so bigger valves wont be on the cards yet

Adaptor plates are hardly difficult to make.. But finding a bloke to get it tuned right is the challenge.

good point, i want something thats easy to tune as i dont want to have to pay big bucks getting them set up
