we have an 07 reg scania & a banjo bolt has failed on the cam follower shaft, and has scrapped the block... have any of you heard of this cos we are beginning to think it is quite common, and have you got any decent links to worthwhile truck forums... some of them are frighteningly quiet....

not really. lets just say that a 10 quid banjo bolt failing and so far costing £14000 is far from funny

Never heard of that one, and Stobarts had just a few 08 scania's. If I bump into any fitters this week i shall ask.

ta hobbit, its the banjo bolt on the cam follower shafts.. according to scania, they don't have a problem, yet tuesday night they fitted a set of updated bolts to our 08 tractor unit.... but don't seem to think there is a problem at all and have never had it happen before, even though i've seen 2 in their workshop with the same problem, and their bloke admitted to stocking the bits...

Never heard of that on any of our 9 litre engines, I'll ask our mechanic about the tippers ( 11 litre 380 ) and tractor ( 12 litre 480 ) engines,

its only the later dt type 5 & 6 pots. the old 380 had traditional style cam bucket followers...

Cool, out of 62 scanias our oldest is a 2008 so we should have a few with those engines, all our 18 sweepers are the 5 cylinder 230 engine ( such a weak unit compared to the older 6 cylinder 230 :( )

Tell me about it.. We used to have a 450 v8 & it was a true monster, but a 480 straight 6 struggles to pull itself up the road....
