I'm 'thinking' about going down the 2.0 8 valve turbo route rather than going with the expensive C20LET option. Could anyone give me any info in which 2.0 to go for, any useful advice (if its a bad idea etc) and basically any engine parts that are recommended for this conversion please?

The 8v engine was turbo'd on the American market afaik. I have seen a GM turbo manifold for sale on Ebay some time ago. Might be worth checking out Ebay.com

if you grab the ne i dont think (corect me if im wrong) you have to adjust the compression ratios so that would be my choice out of the 2, you will also need manifold turbo, downpipe, oil feed and return, oil cooler, intercooler, boost pipes, blow off valve, you could go old school and not use managment but i wuld rather use megajolt or along thos lines

Yeah I got told earlier today that the C20NE has got the same compression ratio as the C20LET?

C20NE is the engine to turbo because it has lower compression than the 20SEH

Btw, I've read somewhere that you can use LET loom and ECU on home made c20ne turbo conversion

Wikipedia reckons the LET is 9.0:1 and the NE 9.2:1. SEH is apparently 10.0:1

The american turbo one was the LT3, that had 8.0:1

A LET will be cheaper than a 8V turbo.

The US varient was a c20NET wasnt it?

Yes will,i remember sloff saying that.
I agree with Paul,a let will be alot cheaper.

C20let pistons go straight in the seh or ne and would make a better job of it aslso bin the standard management and buy a dta.
Theres a website ran by js racing ( owns the yellow astra and black tigra both doing 10s quarters) dedicated to turboing the 8v but i carnt rember the address

C20GET, as the compression was 8.0 - 8.5

When I looked up these engines a couple years back I was told as long as you run 10psi or less the standard ecu won't mind so no need for aftermarket ecu's up to that point if you want to keep it cheap

megajolt would be useless as it only controls spark not fuel

Megasquirt is the prefered management for 8v turbos

me and my brother are putting one of these together at the moment. we have used the C20NE and have fitted it with a Z20LET 1.9mm multi-layer headgasket just to bring compression down a bit more....
