Hello.

Mums partner recently required a rover 216 1.6 16v
Only problem that's been noticed is that the temperature guage is not rising regardless of how long it runs for. And with rovers being prone to overheating and head gasket failure it's key that it works.
Any ideas on why it's not working?
Rep will be given for any help :)

Make sure there is coolant in the system, if low can cause HG failure.

Would check the temperature sender is working, find the lead and ground it, gauge should go High temp. It maybe the lead has come off the unit ot sender is duff.

Great little engines when right, reputation for HG failure as you know/are aware of

(I've repaired 2 of them now)

Sorry forgot to say we did ground it and it rocketed up but then once it's connected back up there's nothing.

Coolant is full and no air bubbles etc?

And yeah they do seem good little things, alot of bad rep for HG but can be the same with every engine if you don't look after them lol

Replace the temperature sender, it is goosed.

Not sure if you'll get one from a motor factors, you should, but in not try www.rimmerbros.co.uk (http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk) not the cheapest, but they bought a lot of old stock fromn rover/mg
