Eco wreck mate, changeover was about '93, so some L reg's were XE and late L's were ecos, everything afterwards was an eco!

Oi Lewis you cheeky nasty git, have a word with Graeme, he has looked over what remains of my cav shell at Colin's, he was shocked at just how rotten it was, it wasnt just fooked, it was dangerously rotten, otherwise it would still be alive!

Theyre very under rated imo.

scott, yeah I have, the lack of 20 horses is noticeable, and they just don't have the same appeal as an XE imo

and I know Spud, I saw the pictures, it was shocking! we still love ya!

Nothing wrong with the Ecotec as long as the cam sensor wiring isn't shot. My bro's L reg just missed on the XE and was probably one of the first XEV's. It shifts no denying that.

All Cav SRI's should have an XE, just some say ecotec on the plug cover, these are the LE version (which actually has a stronger block). If the sparkplug cover is L shaped it doesn't matter what it actually says on it, it's still a C20XE.

Read an article some time ago involving SBD's founder explaining all the differences. Might be on their site somewhere

lol at this thread now

It was only an idle question, I've not bought the cav anyway now.

and you're right mowgli, a 20 year old XE probably wont make 150 any more, but it has more of a chance than a very similar 20 year old engine that started off 20hp less anyway lol

and the 'red top' hating is getting a bit tedious now lol

That SBD article may be an interesting read if you can find it. But not all 16v SRi's had an XE. Due to emissions they fitted the XEV. My bro's Cav is stamped with XEV and has a straight spark plug cover.

I'd rather buy an ecotec these days, cheaper and in standard form still a 2 litre innit bro lol

Is it an SRI though?

Will have a look now

I apologise, it's a C20XE LN, not LE, i got mixed up between noise and emissions lol

Both articles are a good read, 2nd one covers the LN/ecotec thing
