Hi Guys,

Ive had an engine sat in my garage for two years now that is in need of a rebuild. The engine was rebuilt and ran for about 10 miles before my oil pump failed due to a stuck relief valve.

Quick question though. I am rebuilding the bottom end and need to do it as cheapily as i can. Could i reuse the bolts for the conrods? they ahve never been revved high and as i said never covered many miles.

Lots of people say as they are stretch bolts they need to be replaced but others say they have never had chance to stretch so should be fine.

AFAIK they stretch when you tighten them up so only good for one use.

i know plenty of people who have reused stock rod bolts and never had problems tbh, but for sake of £60 may be worth fitting arps....help with resale too

These are arp ones that I've taken out so trying to not have to buy again as they have ne'er really had any use.

AFAIK the ARP bolts are good for three uses with any of the bolts. minimum.

Didn't know standard bolts were stretch.

The ones I've taken out are arp so should stretch. I'll bolt it all back together using the same bolts I think just get new shells
