Took delivery of a nice new shiny Gsi tank from German Ebay today. Came in a rather nice silver paint.

But does it need a repaint? Or is it some kind of coating..

Thoughts, Experiences with same thing?

well seeing as every part in original factory finish rusts within 6 months of being on the road, even on new cars, i'd say give it a coat of something good anyway!

I bought a new tank years ago, only covered it with waxoil, it's now fooked lol

I'd paint it silver then lacquer it aswell

Has anyone tried CLEAR hammerite Waxoil? Might be worth a try.

Clear waxoyl spray? It looks yellowy so not totally clear.

Think I used Hammerite on mine, I don't really like the stuff but it's holding up well after a year's use on the roads.

Deffo paint it. Enamel, Hammerite, stone chip etc should do the trick. I need to do mine too come to think of it.

I'd paint it. Being new it will need minimal prep. Also by painting it will match the rest of the ultimate newness on your project!

If its brand new & never had fuel in it i would get it powdercoated myself.

/\ that is a very good call tbh, once it's had fuel in it you can't really do it, so you are in a one time only situation.
