Having previously had a 1.2 nova with manual choke, i'm now trying to understand a 1.3 auto choke!

As it has a choke control, I am assuming it is only partly automatic and I do still need to pull this out when starting from cold, but will it turn itself off, as the cable does not seem to retract?

I am aware that there is a choke light on the dash, but it doesn't seem to come on, should it show if the cable is pulled out?

To complicate matters, the engine is still running cold as the thermostat needs replacing, is this likely to affect the auto choke?

The engine is lumpy when idleing and will cut out sometimes. I'm guessing this is all linked to the above?

The 1.3 is a fully auto choke, if you are lucky, you can still find manual choke conversion kits.....but they are rare..

The thermostat is definitely going to affect it.

Thanks.

If it's fully automatic, then why is there a choke cable and control by the steering column (with locking ability)?

Does the choke light show at any point with an automatic choke?

Does the choke already have a manual conversion fitted? Or is the cable a leftover from a 1.2?

The vehicle has always been a 1.3 I believe, so it's either been there from new or added later I guess.

It has a locking facility on the choke control knob on the steering column, which i've not seen before.

i reckon you might have a manual choke fitted then. if so, it is not affected by temperature..

any chance of some pics to help identify it, both cable & where it joins the carb

Here's (hopefully) some pictures of the carb:

Thats been converted to manual. Get the thermostat replaced as you'll need choke all the time unless the car is at proper temperature.

Incidently, the automatic chokes can actually be quite good but, they have to be set up properly to function which can be quite testing on patience!

Give the carb a good clean with some wd40, it may help running a bit too.

How would I go about changing it back to auto choke? Would it be worth the work?
