On thursday i made a trip halfway to bristol to swap my corsa sport for a nova saloon, i met up with Mrsmith (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/member.php?200589-Mrsmith) off here and after a good look over both of the cars we where happy to do a straight swap, i got it home and started work on her straight away.

35k genuine mileage
12 months mot
6 months tax

The first thing was to rip the stereo out and re-wire the full thing as it was bodjed to hell with random wires all over, it took me 3 hours and lots of soldering later it worked perfect.
I've found a few problems such as the grab handle is broken, the sunvisor clips are broken and the interior is very very tatty.

I went to scunthorpe today to pick up some original nova gte wheels with excellent tyres for a bargain of £70 to replace the steel wheels currently on the car.
I've started to take the interior out and replace the seats with rover metro gta seats, i thought it would be a simple job but obviously it wasnt, i will be buying lots of box section and cracking out the welder tomorrow to see what i can come up with :thumb:

A few pictures of how she stood, and how she stands at the moment

( please note that is my old man in the picture and not me lol )

keep it clean and maintained well, no plans on engine upgrades as i want to keep it as original as possible ( except for the easy bolt on / bolt off bits )
It needs a very good clean inside and out, it will be my daily car aswell even in all this snow still starts first turn of the key so im very pleased

Also the insurance is unreal, 22 year old 2 years ncb and im paying £296 fully comp on classic insurance, so i cant complain atall.

haha, how was the corsa exhaust on the way home ?, i did a quick cd player change so im not suprised lol :), i got some seats of colin smith ( novarally ), they will go well with the car ( grey with red striped ) also got the doorcards and rear seats and all the other bits i needed, thanks alot colin was worth the trip !.

I have binned the rover gta seats, i kept the seatbelts though as there alot better than the nova ones, i managed to fit them to the nova seats and fitted the seatbelts in the car with a bit of modification, just need to put the seats in make some brackets for the rears and fit the grab handle ect

Im insured with lancaster classic insurance, they where far the best, adrian flux where £75 more.

Lots more pictures, as said before i went and picked up a few parts from novarally, also just found out that my battery is knackered so that will have to be replaced ( bloody weather )
I managed to fit the nova hatchback rear seats with abit of modification ( few brackets ) whilst welding the brackets on i didnt realise i had some panel wipe behind me that went up in flames only damaged the top bit of the seat which is now covered up with a towel, my own fault but could have been alot worse especially if our mk2 escort went up in flames ( eek )

Hid's might not have been the best idea as when i use them my cd player turns off, so i have to get a nice new battery.
I will be moving the numberplate asap but i might order some pressed ones, im not to sure yet as it needs one on the rear end.

I finally gave her a quick wash as i had a spare 15 minutes today, i managed to get hold of a rear number plate backing but unsure weather to fit or not.
I have took some pictures or the worst bits i've found on the car ( 1st time i've had a good luck )
There is a before and after of me cleaning the sun visor with abit of white spirit, cant believe how dirty it was.
Fitted some honda civic washer jets :)
Photo of my scrap pile for the day, took a fiat punto gearbox off to do the clutch to find the gearbox had a hole in it hence why the clutch was slipping.

I have decided to scrap the X14XE idea and sold the engine to someone else, i just bought an astra gls ( 1995 ) with an 1.6 8v mpi fitted it has cambelt failure but i was planning a full strip down and a rebuild no matter what engine i got. managed to get the full car for £140, will take the engine, loom , ecu and everything else i will need and scrap the car

Markd89
08-03-12, 01:47 AM
After fixing the mg zr, i sold it within 3 hours of having it listed and made a nice tidy £400 profit which will be spent on the nova, i took the engine out of the astra and got a few pics along the way. i filled it with a bit of scrap i had lying around and weighed it in for £141, still have the alloys forsale so the engine will work out to be free which is a bonus :)

Started stripping the engine down, and gave the pistons a clean, lots of photos before and after.
Weirdly enough the cambelt has snapped but i dont think the valves are bent as they are all firmly closed,
i will remove them and check them with the "roll" method and see what happens.
I've just bought a new cordless drill with some wire brush attatchements to get at all of the rust on the block.
Also recived a package which contained a new headlight switch and indicator cluster for the wing

Once you sell the astra to the scrap man, thats looking like a bargain... The wr box won't be the most fun, but your fuel mileage will be quite good.

Markd89
09-03-12, 11:50 PM
Got £141 for the astra with no engine, still got the alloys too.
The reason for the upgrade is purely for abit more poke than the 1.0 carb currently fitted,
if i wanted something stupidly quick then i would redtop / let. But its my daily car so fuel and reliability are the key :)

liking the progress looks like there is gonna be 2 1.6 8v red saloons at the shows lol while you have it stripped i would replace the thermostat on the side of the head as they are common for sticcking open.

@ Burgo, its our lasses address not mine :)

@ Stupot89 - Changed the thermostat already, read a few articles on how prone they are to going to changed it for the sake of it

@ Andy - Thats the reason im doing it, dont see many clean loons let alone with a shiny rebuilt 1.6 8v in them

Cheers for the comments

I painted the block in smooth black hammerite, i also managed to spray up the head and placed it onto the block just to see what it looked like, i was happy with it seen as ive only spent £60 on the engine upto now and only have a sump gasket left to buy.

Today i took a step back from vauxhalls and started on the mini project me and my dad are doing, a few pics also a few pics of the familys cars randomly dotted around the street :)

Random question, does your dad work at mill lane auto as im sure i recognise the black mk2 lol

Oh and going back when you said about the valves all seem fine, thats because small blocks are valve safe, iirc you couldve fitted a belt and had it running in the astra:thumb:

Spudly i found that out after i took the engine out which was typical, and my dads is the white mk2, the black one is my uncles who yes works at mill lane autos, i live just round the corner from there.

stupot - i managed to get the 4 branch of ebay, someone was selling a race engine with a few bit and i asked if he would sell it seperatley only paid £50 for it, the heat wrap was £12 off ebay so i was happy with the price its cost me

More Pictures from bits i've done today, rebuilt the head and fitted it to the block, need to torque the bolts down.
Bought oil filter and some bosch sparkys, I need to find out the correct way for the waterpump to be fitted as i cant remember and by looks of it it can go anyway it wants, anyone have and ideas ? also a picture of my heatwrapped exhaust, think it looks alot better than the rusty look:

Been spraying a few things up recently so took some pics along the way, also fitted the cambelt but the clearance between the belt and the tensioner is very slim, not sure if i have this on right so any guidance will be greatful.
I've timed it up and turned it over by had 4 times and it doesnt lose tension and the timing marks are c0ck on.
Going to strip and clean the inlet manifold and spray it the same colour as the cam pulley and alternator brackets, hopefully it will look ok as i was going to do it black but thought it may be to much of a miss match colour so i went for a dark grey graphite.

Managed to change the cambelt tensioner to the right way round as i did have it wrong, for reference there is a hole in the oil pump where the tensioner lug sits in.
Cleaned and painted the gearbox today took 3 hours to do as it was covered in all sorts of crap, also a package arrived wrapped very very well. There is 4 of them just didnt unwrap the last one. Also polished the loon properly, the first time since i've had it. Also a picture of our mini project on the roller we made for it out of box section and wheelie bin wheels.

Painted the gearbox and started to paint the alloys. The first 2 alloys where ok, the last 2 had a very bad reaction to the primer for some reason should only be something simple like i forgot to wipe it down properly so i will have to flat it back and re - primer the 2 wheels. Managed to get the first 2 wheels done, they are not perfect but they look reasonable. Wilkinsons rattle cans ftw :) if i wanted them to be perfect i would have got them powder coated, the paint only cost £20 so im happy.

Going to oder some coilovers soon as it sits a little high for my liking,
Just had a tax rebate for £500 so have a bit of spare cash to spend on the nova :)
Also going to france tomorrow as fancied a week away from england so no progress for atleast a week,
cleaned the garage out and rebuilt more parts on the engine and tucked it away in the corner so the nova can go in while im away, few pictures of the engine of how it stands now :

haha, makes me smile now i've got it built up as when i stripped it down and started cleaning i was thinking why am i bothering.
The paint was from a mate of mine who works at a paint shop, he mixed some high temp paint with a silver metalic colour and made it up into a can for me.

Was supposed to be going to france but due to my girlfriends grandad having a heart attack we cancelled, i was bored in the hostpital waiting room and found some coilovers 45 mile away, brand new and cheap so i bought them and picked them up :)

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/$(KGrHqZ,!q!E9eCLOfQDBPg(f,Ingg~~60_12.JPG

Brand new never fitted came boxed with original recipt for £399.99
They arent the best coilovers in the world but they must be better than the standard shocks and lowering springs i have at the minute.

I'm feeling the same about my engine at the minute lol I dont want to start stripping it just yet, I promised myself I'd just stick it in and get the car running but now I'm buildin up my turbo conversion list lol

i can ask him mate no problem, and specific colour ?
and i know when i saw the recipt i nearly laughed at the bloke who bought them originally.
They came from germany aswell with proof of " comfortivity " Theres a few sets on ebay for around the £200 mark which look the same but either way half the price so im happy :)

Its worth cleaining and painting your engine when you want to because when you get it in and all running you'll think to your self " wish i painted the engine " i've done it plenty of times

There are more than youd think, my mate Alex is about in his SR powered mk2, Brodie has just retaxed his, Joff's should be back on the road soon, and there is a random mk2 red SR parks behind motor depot most days, plus a stunning breeze blue SR on ebay from cottingham!

Funny aint it, most nova owners always know where the other nova's are in their towns lol

Fitted the coilovers today, so much of a difference in the ride and feel of the car, going to get it tracked and 4 wheel aligned by a mate of spuds soon, fitted the rears no problem as for the front they where catching on the wheel so i removed the helper springs and problem solved. Saved buying some spacers, its not as low as i ideally want it but having a newborn and this been our daily car its not ideal at the moment, its currently sitting 60mm back and around 60mm front.
Didnt manage to get any pics of them fitted and back on the floor but will get some soon :

Wire brushed the petrol tank and gave it a coat of under body sealant that was 6 years out of date, found it in a car i scrapped last year, knew it would come in handy lol, its not pretty but it will protect it well.

I got on with the alternator belt today, went to andrew pages and picked up a 6PK853 Belt
Removed the alternator bracket and enlarged the holes to 12mm each end
Fitted the belt and bolted up the alternator, used some new nuts, bolts and washers.
I also had to re - paint the bracket after the pictures where taken to make it abit more presentable
The tension is perfect, will do just fine ( I hope )

I was unsure what to do with the fuel rail as it was all corroded and didnt look nice, i decided to just spray it satin black, i also sprayed the 2 inlet manifold sensors just to clean them up abit.
Also a picture of the fuel tank after its now set ( finally )
Tigersealed and added rubber to the engine mount to stiffen it up abit.

I love it when you go with a plan to do a job and end up doing a lot more! So much better than when you don't get all the jobs done! It is looking good, is it a stainless manifold?

Markd89
26-04-12, 12:10 AM
It isnt a stainless manifold as far as I know, haven't even checked but from the amount of rust that was on it I don't think it is, yes I know what I need to change only thing left to buy is the exhaust and mpi fuel pump ;) the only thing I will get stuck on is the wiring bit with the amount of help on here I'm sure ill manage

Very happy today with the scrapyard finds, dont normally use the one i went to but glad i did, sitting right at the back i found a corsa sri 8 valve (c14se), i removed all the fuel lines few sensors the throttle cable and fuel pump :)
I modified the corsa pump to fit into the nova housing, abit of soldering and it should be good to go
I've ordered a gte exhaust to try and make it fit to my 4 branch, also recieved my backbox :

It isnt a stainless manifold as far as I know, haven't even checked but from the amount of rust that was on it I don't think it is, yes I know what I need to change only thing left to buy is the exhaust and mpi fuel pump ;) the only thing I will get stuck on is the wiring bit with the amount of help on here I'm sure ill manage

I think heat wrapping a non stainless manifold can make it more prone to rust as the moisture will be trapped inside.

Alot of people say this and some people say its bollocks, i touched a magnet onto the manifold today and it didnt stick so i presumre its stainless

Cheers spud, im very suprised i found one tbh it should do the job perfect tho :)

Made a new fuel line with an inline fuel filter
Sprayed and fitted the engine mounts and crank sensor housing
Fitted the injection rail
Fitted all the water hoses
Fitted all the breathers
Cleaned, stripped and re-greased the gear linkage
Cleaned the engine bay

Old engine mount vs new :

I will try some g3 and see what happens,
i bought some things today :

256mm mintex disks & pads
New plug leads - had to take them back as one was broken but easily replaced and fitted them
Callipers & carriers

I also recieved my exhaust that i hope will fit my 4 branch, no where stocked them except one place who had 2 left, lucky to get one !
I painted the callipers and carriers black, same as the drums.

Agreed on the engine, just try and keep it clean lol

5am ! haven't seen this time for a while, cup of tea on standby, up nice and early to crack on with the nova.
Hopefully get the engine in today and plumb it in, wiring will be tomorrow as i've got alot of other peoples cars to do today.

Yesterday i replaced the n/s hub as a bearing went, stripped all the old brakes off, fitted the throttle and clutch cable. just need to go buy some copper grease to fit the new brakes as i've ran out !

The opel sticker came from my local sign makers, managed to get the engine in and mostly plumbed in.
Dreaded wiring to do tomorrow bit stuck on a few things i have a spare blue/white wire in the engine bay with a spade connector on, also the oil pump wiring - do i extend this to the back of the engine ?

Today had abit of wiring issues and a few other problems such as the fuel lines the wrong way.
Was a fiddle but managed to get the fuel to the rail, got spark and it fired up. sounded ok but due to me not having the blue/white on the alternator and not having a decent charged battery it only lasted 30 seconds.

I will need to re - wire the ign live and the eml light as i wired them up wrong, there was no water / oil leaking which is always a bonus and it didnt sound asthough there was anything wrong with the engine.
I have just ordered some 4" speakers for the dashboard as the ones in it are knackered, also i will have some mk1 rev counter clocks on the way then i can build the dash up.

Things left to do :-

Re-wire Ign Live & Choke Light
Fit Dash
Bleed Brakes
Fit Bonnet
Make Exhaust
Vacumn & Clean

Its getting there !

Sounding good mate, what box are you using? As the astra one maybe the wr box

Markd89
08-05-12, 10:48 PM
Pi$$ed of today, went to the car and to sort the wiring, first thing the fuel pump decided not to work so had to take the tank off again, after this i took the pump out and it was stuck, whacked it on the floor a few times and it started working ?? Seems to be ok now had it running for 5 minutes in a jerry can and it was fine.
The next thing is the starter motor, that got stuck aswell was just clicking so i had to remove that and give that a good whack, same thing it was fine after that just need to fit it now.
To top it all off, i put the callipers on the wrong way round ( bleed nipples on the bottom ) complete school boy error, thats why i couldnt get them to bleed properly, soon as i switched thim i had a perfect peddle, so pretty much today was a complete ball ache but will get there eventually !

The box that came from the astra, its an f13, how can i see if its a wr box ?

cheers paul,

Ok so i wired uo my new rev counter clocks and wired up the choke light as my eml light
They work well, managed to start the car for 1 min until the fuel pump died completly, its the 4th time im having to take the tank out as i dont want to drill a hole under the rear seat, oh well. theres a daewoo nexia in the scrappy and i think ill get that fuel pump today.
Also i think the cam carrier is leaing oil between the head and carrier itself, may have to remove the head bolts and put some instant sealer on the surface to stop it from leaking.
Atleast she starts and no managment light came on which was good

And another thing, the exhaust doesnt match upto my 4 branch so will have to modify that aswell but no biggy :)

I'll start off with a rant - need to take the fuel tank off yet again due to another dodgy fuel pump, keeps getting stuck. last time i buy from that scrapyard !
on a plus side i managed to get the full exhaust system made and fitted, have lots of pictures so i'll guide through them.

First thing was to cut down the edge of the nova gte standard exhaust and bend it outwards to get it to seat right with my 4 branch, it was then plated over with some stainless steel :

Having more problems :

Fitted a new fuel pump and works fine, had it running for 5 minutes and now it wont fire up
I'm getting fuel to the lines no problem just doesnt get any at the rail so im thinking wiring maybe ?

Also have a major leak from the rocker gasket and the cam carrier, oh and also think the bottem end is going.
all good fun !

Markd89
14-05-12, 06:39 PM
More updates, a good one atleast !

Managed to get the car started and the bottem end hasnt gone, although the clutch release bearing doesnt sound healthy.
Fixed the rocker leak with a cork type gasket was only £1.55 and alot better than the rubber ones !
the cam carrier leak has seemed to stop now the engine has been ran for a while.

Have 2 fault codes come up on the eml light tho

1 . - Throttle sensor ( had this unplugged so it may just want the ecu resetting )
2 . - Engine Control Module (ECM), MIL/RPM/Fuel consumption signals - circuit malfunction

Unsure what number 2 is although on autodata it has a few tests i can run so i can see what its doing
The engine seems to run ok but when i give it a few revs it seems to bog out so another thing to sort but getting there !

More problems !
Got the dash in today, mostly all fitted back up and wired in.

Fuel pump has decided to stick yet again ! thats the 3rd one - may run an external fuel pump now
My passenger side lights stay on all the time unless i disconnect the battery
when the engine idles its not running right, the revs are a little lumpy and it has no power ( bogs out and back fires )

The bonus is i dont have any ecu codes anymore

Steve
15-05-12, 10:17 PM
Did you have the AFM connected when you ran it? That might be the cause, and if its got no airfilter either that might be causing it to run funny, good work though but shame about the fuel pumps, seems funny to have 3 give up.

You'll get there mate.

Markd89
16-05-12, 09:19 AM
It doesn't run an afm as its the c16se from an early astra, also put an airfilter on just out of interest and made no difference, going to do a compression test today and see what happens

Markd89
23-05-12, 11:19 PM
No updates as recently moving into a new house, the full lot had to be decorated and all new floors so been doing that the last week or so. laminate flooring is not fun !

Will be doing a compression test soon, also fit a new fuel pump, i have a spare cowsorth external one so i will temp fit that and see what happens, also have a bad earth i think as for some reason the side lights front and rear stay on unless i disconnect the battery.

Won't be going to Pvs in the nova due to not having time to finish it, the house renovation has to come first, just bought some cosworth recaro seats to be put in once I have time, still need to sort the fuel issue out aswell. Will still be at PVS but just in the astra

Markd89
19-06-12, 09:13 PM
Pvs was good fun shame I couldn't go in the nova but oh well !
Some good updates for once !

Bought myself some spax rear shockers with dampner settings
Bought some genuine rs cosworth recaro seats
New fuel pump

Fitted everything today cracked on well, got the car running properly, has a slight missfire but nothing to worry about, the seats are really comfy and wernt that hard to fit, bit of welding and nut n bolt action.

Pictures tomorrow as I'm on my phone

Drove the car for the first time today, put a smile on my face to be back in a nova.
Few niggly problems :

The illumination doesnt work on the 6 dials, the circuit is all broken on the back but bought them off here as " mint " condition so not happy. Will try and fix them somehow.

The release bearing is very noisey, the clutch wasnt that old so thought it would be ok but it isnt so i'll buy a new one and get it fitted.

The backbox catches slightly on the rear chasis leg that just needs twisitng and tighting

Had to " modify " the door cards to fit the seats in as they where a little wide, i could have moved them further in but i wouldnt be able to use the handbrake properly so i got the hacksaw out !
I will get the bottoms re-covered when i have the time to hide the screw holes and also need to tidy up the arm rest.

Other than them small set backs everything else is fine, few pictures ofter i gave it a quick jet wash to get all the dust off :

Cheers david, Today i fixed the 6 dials speedo by using some gauge wire : here was the problem

http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff445/markvtr/IMAG0735.jpg

All together i found 6 breaks in the circuit, i bought some gauge wire as suggested by phazer, cleaned up all of the copper tracks and soldered them together, although i couldnt work out why the illumination still wasnt working ( everything else was by this point ) so i i did was re-route the illumination to the ignition live on the wiring harness and it all light up.
Pretty simple to do but took alot of patience and a steady hand, cheers for the help chaps

Found another problem today nothing major but a water pipe has split so that needs replacing asap
Also my speedo cable snapped :(

Markd89
27-06-12, 08:16 PM
New speedo cable as the other one snapped - fitted and makes a noise every now an then even though its been greased and oiled ?
Ordered a clutch kit as the release bearing is making an awful noise, also think the pressure plate is bent.
No pictures unfortunatly, changed the oil today also

Steve
28-06-12, 02:51 PM
If you didnt have six dials before you will need to route the speedo cable to the left of the rack otherwise you'll snap that one as well. Took me two cables till I realised why lol

Markd89
28-06-12, 03:15 PM
yea thats how i realised it snapped, gone back to the original clocks now so its in the middle but still makes a noise and has no bends in it so cant work it out, maybe just a crap cable as its not gm

Markd89

Decided to do the clutch today, took a few pictures along the way :

For some reason whel i built the engine and bolted everything together i put 3ltrs of gear oil into the box, i drained it out and only had about 500ml, must be the reason the gearbox was whining, i was hoping to get away with putting new oil in.

I have my own vauxhall clutch alignement tool ( an old shaft from a blown gearbox )

http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff445/markvtr/IMAG0764.jpg

Replaced the bearing as the old one was knackered lined every up and bolted it together
Also noticed a split cv boot whils i was doing it so i replaced it.

The clutch is so light and the pedal is brilliant, although the gearbox is knackered. Whines and grates through the gears so i will be on the look out for another f13 / f15 so replace the current one.

Cheers Keith, we will have a catch up another time.
Got the new gearbox fitted today from Keith at a bargain £30
No horrible noises or crunches and its nice and smooth

I broke down last night also with a flat battery, for some reason the alternator cable had snapped and wasn't charging the battery so fixed that today also,
Its getting there slowly !

## BAD NEWS ##

Crank snapped... God know how but this morning there was a noise so i turned the car off, tried to re-start it and had no compression, stripped the belt off and the crank pulley just fell off, it has snapped about 6cm off the crank itself.

I have an option of either putting another crank in the block with new bearings or look for another engine.

Pissed off but hey ho :(

I didnt want to go looking through a scrapyard to not find a alternator tensioner + belt from a non power steering / no aircon corsa sport so i thought of a solution and here it is, it works perfect and was only £11 + the odd bolt to do it.

Take one belt

Various nuts,bolts and washers

Take 8 washers on each bolt as a spacer ( i will be changing this for a proper spacer this was just a trial )

Cheapest easy option is to slot the top bracket. Then you have adjustment like the nova.

Not really as youd still have to buy a corsa sport belt with no pas / ac

Basically the same principal but i used spacers

You might need to swap the belt for a single v, rather than multi...

I've already had the c16se fitted with the multi v so i know there is clearance :)

Iv herd that if the washer on the bottom pulley is the wrong way round it smashes the crank. U may want to replace the head gasket whilst the engine is out as there a pain to do whilst in the car and at 75k sounds about ready for one.

Looks sweet too.

After alot of problems with wiring looms it now starts and i couldnt be happier with the purchase,
No noisey tappets or hydraulic lifters, the engine is that sweet the only noise you can here is the fuel pump.
Very happy, the list left to do :

Buy and fit new dash
New sump gasket as current one is leaking
Exhaust blowing

The problem i had :-

I got the ecu, transponder + chip from an n reg 1.6 16v tigra
I was unaware that the engine loom was from a corsa ( got told it was tigra )

The ecu had cream / red plugs
The loom had white / red plugs

The problem was it had an extra wire for the knock sensor, the injector loom was also different, i managed to get hold of a cream / red loom to match the ecu and got the nock sensor aswell fitted it all and it fired up straight away.

Just because of one extra wire in the loom is wouldnt start as there was no signals getting to the knock sensor.

Need to set the coilovers up aswell and should be good to go :)

Gearbox collected and fitted, took a total of 2 hours 10 mintues to drive the car in the garage, strip and replace the box and drive away now with a working speedo cable so it doesnt stall at junctions now the vss is working correctly.

Actually drove the car properly today and it runs very smooth and pulls very well
Waterpump cost me £6 on ebay brand new, cambelt kit £63 once there done i can use the car as my daily again

Well i've done 400 miles and the engine hasnt missed a beat, pulls well through all the gears and is pokey enough for what i need it for, looking for a new lowering kit maybe some spax rsx i want decent ride quality and a nice ride height.
The coilovers i had on previously where catching on the alloys even with the helper springs removed only lowered 60mm.

Going to start sorting out the bumpers, door handles and grill as they are looking abit tacky, only going to give them a nice clean coat of satin black just to tidy them up.
Once the funds allow i'll be getting some clear indicators and clear side repeaters + the suspension

Markd89
03-08-12, 09:39 PM
Stripped the bumpers, grill, petrol cap also decided to do the splitter. Going to do the door handles tomorrow.
whoever painted the bumpers before i got the car is a complete tool, god knows what paint they used but it just flaked off in really big chunks but it was also very rubbery like stickerflex. Anywho a quick tickle with 320 sorted it out and chucked some satin black on the bits, im not going for perfection just presentable.

Ey up matey, i reckon it needs the plinth on the back end, where the reg plate sits, looked really odd from behind when i was following you last weekend!

Looks like it shifts quite well too, i wouldve caught you faster but some of us do the speed limits through those villages (been caught out by a sneaky copper near there before now so it pays to) :p

Markd89

I had one spud, it was broken though and didnt fit right so took it off, been looking for another one for a while now.
Its not to bad, really good on fuel aswell which is a bonus, i know what you mean about the villages, they seem to hide in the corners with the cameras, usually on the blind bends hiding behind a tree and jump out at you.

Oi cheeky feck, i can leave my nova outside my house for at least half an hour during the day, gets eyed up by old blokes in classic cars as they pass which is cool, but ive fitted an xe so if anyone from springbhagdad tries to 'jack' me, i can floor it and im off, had some nob with a blue neon ground kit fitted to the roof of his car (weirdo) trying to chase me the other night, i lost his ass on beverly road :d

Cheers chris, i will give that ago.
Well its my birthday on 1st september and the girlfriend said she will pay for the paint so i can spray my car
Can get everything i need including sandpaper, 2k primer, paint, + all the other little bits for £180

I'm going to sort out the rust on the rear arch first ans it will need a piece welding in, other than that it will be a case of flatting off, filling in a few dints and chucking some primer on.

One thing im going to do is weld up the ariel hole and smooth it off as i dont use it as it was snappend when i got the car just to make it abit tidier, i will be doing it the same colour as i wont be doing the inside, the engine bay will be getting done at a later date when i drop the engine next year to tidy it up.

Will put pictures up as i go along

Markd89
20-08-12, 11:09 PM
I'm glad i put the x16xe in as it hasnt missed a beat and pulls very well for what it is,
i thought to myself if im going to paint it i may aswell do it all at once so the new plans are

Remove engine
Paint the block
Paint manifold / other bits
Replace engine gaskets
Paint engine bay
Paint all under bonnet items such as brake servo
Tidy all the wiring up

I've started poking around with a screwdriver to see what welding i need :

Battery tray - will buy a repair panel
Rear o/s sill - arch
Rear n/s arch

Thats all it needs, i have already bought my replacement car and swapped the insurance over
£200 fully comp 1.6 pug 309 ( will be my winter car also )
The car cost me £300, it has mot until april and tax until january so was happy with it ( came with half a tank of fuel also ! )

Engine out, some more of the engine bay stripped, went and bought a hammer drill as they where on offer, got myself a wire brush attatchement and fancied trying it out on the brake servo, did a brilliant job well worth the £1.50 !.
On a bad note, managed to crack the cambelt cover when removing the engine, trip to the scrappy.
I've decided to put the interior back to normal, in the process of trying to source some standard seats and doorcards

I was bored the other day and had some money in my paypal account so i bought some battery terminals, new sump plug and a battery tray, bearing in mind i have never done and panel work before so thought i'd have ago myself only 1 way to learn.

It was a basta"rd to do, cutting and shaping and cutting some more and tacking and hammering but got there in the end,
By all means its not perfect but should be fine once painted and when the battery is in how much do you really notice the tray.

Few pictures :
