edit....should check google first lol. anywho, do they hold the bottom spring cups in place for the valve springs? and whats the best way of refitting them?

also is it worth replacing the valve guides? if so, how do you get them out? are they pressed into place or something?

What engine, Vauxhall or BMWlol

Valve stem seals will normally come off with a pair of pliers, grips, fit the new ones with out using such devices:d
There are proper stem seal pliers available, but not needed, maybe useful if you are building/stripping heads everyday.

Valve guides are normally a press job, guides should only need changing due to excessive wear...... need to check how slack the vaves are in the guides, shouldn't be a load of slogger really;)
