View Full Version : please help me with alloys, pcd & offset its all really confusing me
I've been thinking about some alloys for shows and stuff but its really confusing me.
Ideally I would like some 10" 0r 13" wide as fook wheels but can't seem to find any that will fit.
I know that nova's are 4x100pcd which is the stud pattern, you can get adapters to change this.
What I don't understand is offset any help would be great around this subject as I really want some sweet wheels that will make the car lol :thumb:
standard offset is et49 anything lower and theres more chance of it scrubbing
Something like this might be handy to work out what offset you need to attempt to fit 10" wheels on a Nova: http://kgm.tiwing.com/calcs/offsetcalc.htm
wow thats confusing me even more lol even though it should be helping its not lol
10" WIDE?? You fitting a mattig extreme kit aswell lol
7.5 wide is difficult on a hatch,

Surely anything over 7.5J is a bit of a joke on a nova...? To fit (lots of work) and then to drive around on.
If you stray (downwards) from the et49 offset - the wheel will site further out the arches, (gaining some inner arch space) but then youll be hitting the outer arch lip.
So et49 is the closest youll get intowards the inner arches. But even then, anything over 6J wide, with a lowering will catch. Arches would need rolling at least. Over 7J i think youll need to re-tub the rear turrets/arches. Irrelevent of offset.
Also a proper full, rear coilover setup robs you of inner arch space, if using standard turrets.
Think of an imaginary line down the centre of the wheel; if the hub mounting face was bang on that line, that would be et0.
If the mounting face was closer to the inside edge of the rim, that would be negative offset. The wheel would stick out.
If the mounting face was closer to the outside edge of the rim, that would be positive offset. The wheel sits further inboard.
Standard Nova wheels are et49 which is quite high; fitting a set of wheels with lower offset, e.g. et38, will mean the wheels poke out further as the mounting face is closer to the centreline.

Then we get into negative scrub geometry... which can explain why fitting wider wheels in the wrong offset can affect cornering stability.
10" WIDE?? You fitting a mattig extreme kit aswell lol

No not 10" wide - 10" rim size lol like a classic mini

You will struggle to get any brakes to fit under 10" rims
Thanks for the info Peester and Jack I now understand offset a bit more lol
What is offset measured in - mm? if so does it mean then a wheel with offset et38 would stick out 11mm more than wheel with offset et49?
If I stick with rims that are 6.5" wide(maximum) and with an offset of et49 I will be ok?
Dose any one know of any rims that are 10" x 6.5 et 49???? lol

Lol year never thought of that bit bugger lol
anyone know of any?
Or is it better to get 13's
oh that's much more sensible lol
also Jacks explaination of offset is about as clear as you'll get, basicly with a Nova, stick to et49 and you'll be fine.
mini lites are 4x100 pcd, but at what, 12", won't fit over any brakes. 14's look good on Novas, how about some RFX revolutions if you want something retro?
edit: **** I need to post faster lol
Widend 13" steels would be great, but the widening lowers the offset, so they will stick out farther to the arch...
Are they going on a hatch? Or a saloon?
yeah defo looking at retro alloys but really don't want to go over 13's. do you think the revolutions would be ok with low pro tyres to help keep them looking small??

2 door hatch
7inch with get close, 7.5wide with an offset of 49mm if almost touching..
If you run 13" you'll get a bit better, but how wide do you want?
I'm not to bothered about the width its the rim size I want to keep down, Ideally I would like some retro style rim size 10" if I could get brakes to fit under, If not then will have to be 13".
has any one got pictures of a nova with vauxhall rostyle wheels on lol?

Yep
man I can not find any alloys 13" between 5j and 6.5 with a off set of et49 has any body any suggestions?
49 is a bit of a naff offset for aftermarket wheels. You should be Ok with 45, possibly even down round 40 if you're sticking to small wheels though
yeah nothing over 14" like
looking at these for the nova what do you think?

They look a lot like minilites to me, i have a spare set of them that used to be on my old mini, i trial fitted them to my loon just for a laugh, 13" x 7j wide, unsure on offset though, would need lowering a lot more but maybe this will help you,

That would make an MOT man laugh in your face lol
I should add may need lowering more + ARCH EXTENSIONS to stop plod pulling you every time you go out. lol
yeah I know lol ^^^^they wont work but the one in the picture is a mk2 minilite (split rim) been looking at these
