Anyone tell me the labour time for replacing a clutch on a bmw mini? 1.6 cooper (not s/c) :)

There isn't much difference in the clutch changing time between the two. Is it the earlier style Mini (R50/R53)? I got quoted about 4 hours for the job on my 2004 Cooper S. That was by an independant Mini specialist but he enters the Mini challenge so it used to working quickly to get engines in and out. Based on where you are if your looking for someone else to do the job check out Lohen at Eccleshall as they are a Mini only specialist.

Hi mate, it's a r50 1.6 cooper 2003. I've heard its easier on the non s/c versions. We've got a price for it, just want to check the actual labour time. :)

About 6-7 hours iirc, not sure if I still have a KSD disc somewhere to check the fitting time

Can't help with BMW's, but Jags and Drovers i can help... FYI, the first Aston Martin DB9's have a labour time ~20hours for a wiper motor :) Lucky I wasn't responsible for missing that balls up lol

Im guessing that comment is some kind of "in" joke?

Nope, to do a headlight bulb on a corsa C you have to remove half of the front end.

edit: Actually autodata says 40 mins, sure it was longer than that on one specific model.

Just checked, seems your half right, some have had bumpers off-others have managed it with little hands.
Guess i'll go to halfords when mine need doing on the combo c-seem to remember seeing bulbs fitted for £3 lol
either that or get my kids to do it lol

I've watched a Halfords employee poke around it for half hour before giving up and going back inside, most entertaining half hour I ever had working the trade counter at Wickes on a Sunday lol (As you can imagine, trade gets pretty pointlessly quiet on a Sunday)

Cheaper prices on a sunday?? surely not!

We had a customer in once at work, hed been to halfords for a sidelight bulb fitting to his corsa c, he said that halfords had a list of what models they could fit bulbs to while he waited and it wasnt on so he brought it to us.

Trade desk is another till at the end of the store where all the cement and plasterboard is, that's about all it actually means lol

Because it has trade desk above it, none of the general public actually use it and all use the other end of the store, no traders working on a sunday means I basically sit on my ass and watch the clock count down to home time, it's actually so mind meltingly dull that it's torture to go through but by the end of the day it feels like you've been there for 15 minutes as sod all has actually happened.

They do bacon sarnie mornings at some of the places round here,or they used to atleast, that would drum up the freeloading fat cunnts, then they would drive off in their vosa magnets, empty or the opposite extreme of massively overloaded lol
Maybe you should organise summat similar? then tip off vosa aswell? im sure you would get a good bonus lol

No longer working at Wickes thank god, although the staff were a good laugh, just not exactly a look after our workforce type company lol

Now working for an engine remanufacturer, rolling road, performance/race engine builders, tuners... anything to make an engine work better type place now, as a placement year.

The last shape BMW 7 Series needed the front bumper removed for replacement of the sidelight bulb. It was great to see these so called high flyers smoking round in their executive express squirm when you tell them it is going to cost them £280 to fit a new one lol

We had a few bonnet cable failures on 7 Series, the only way in was through the headlight. One big hammer and a few swings.......

Another fun job was the turbo actuators on a 335i. We had a few that made a noise, only way to replace them was to remove the engine & box.
Ze Germans, zay sink of everysink! lol

That's mental, you would have thought at least dropping a single mount and wiggling it a bit would give access to bolts lol

The two turbos are wedged down the side of the O/S/F strut. You cannot get from below either. The quickest way was to remove the whole engine, box & front subframe with suspension.

a friends missus used to work in the local halfords... she told us some tales.... like people buying kiddy seats at the local car boot sale, and turning up there because the sign said 'free fitting for childs car seats'.......
halfords attracts all the people who know shag all about cars, and then fleeces them accordingly..

re expensive/time consuming repair jobs... a mk3 fiesta diesel cambelt swap is a great one.... there truly is no room....
jcb mini digger fan belt adjustment, 1hr replacement 2 hrs...
my fave was on a scania 143 cab air suspension bag swap, we needed one & had never done one, and a bloke who parked in the same yard said, ooh its dead difficult, our mechanic took 9 hrs to do one..so i then proceded to take 5 mins, and he walked off yelling in his mobile at his mechanic.

We had a warranty audit as BMW thought we were fleecing them as the techs were replacing head gaskets in a 5th of the official repair time. They did not believe it could be done, the technician proved it could. They filmed him doing it as proof.

when i was working at the case tractor dealership in the late 80's/early 90's, we used to regularly send our fixes back to the factory.. there was a certain pride to be had when a parts update comes thru with our fixes on..... we had a regular thing going on with the parts tech people with new models where we would actually examine a new model tractor to work out the common parts and send them a list, this would beat the parts book by 2 months on average.
