c16xe is the corsa gsi engine
x16xe is the corsa sport engine

The C16xe was the early GSI engine 94/95 which they then changed to the X16xe which also came in the Corsa Sports.

There are quite a few subtle diffs -
head/inlet shape
immobiliser (x16)
AFM (c16xe) MAF (x16)
EGR system (x16)

To name but a few!

sorry to hijack the thread but which would be the better head as il be rebuilding my c16xe engine in the near future but i have a x16xe head sat in my garage, would there be any point in mating the two c16xe bottom/x16xe top end?

C and X also refer to the emission regulations it has to fall under.
