Hi
I was at work on Saturday and as i drove a company courtesy car into the work shop then being a numpty i wanted to get it snug in so i could fit more cars in, so as i reversed the car back out the work shop one of my colleague's was pushing a trailer into the work shop and i collided with him causing some damage to the car
- x2 dents just above the bumper (rear quarter)
- and scuffed it on the bumper
i had to tell my boss today and he said its gona be 300-400 out of my wages!
as a apprentice on (£2.60 a hour) is this legal to do or am i just being tight :P
please someone help as i dont know nothing about law etc...

Arh f**k iv been at my work place like a year now and since 2months of starting i was already driving!
been driving there since but just not on the company insurance as he can only have 3 under 25 year olds i believe! :(
Guess im gona have a empty pocket next month!
all i wanna do is save for a new tool box and a nova hahaha!
1. insurance won't cover bumps on the premises...
2. was there a health & safety procedure for going in & out of the building?? i'm guessing not..
3. were you specifically trained for this? i'm also guessing not...
4. did the lad pushing the trailer notice you & give warning? i'm also guessing not...
5. will you get the push if you point out the above?? probably.
in other words if you like your job youll need to pay up
unless you want to go down the health and safety route if you werent to blame, even then you would probably get the boot
he wont take all your wages off you would he?
You could argue that its his lookout for having/letting you drive the car without being insured.
But as Mowglers pointed out, argue the toss and he'll probably just find some reason to fire you!

How badly do you need the job?

Pay rise takes it to £2.60, sod being young again,
apprentice wages will always be crap to start with though, id pay the 40 back a month
Justy pay it and refuse to even entertain the thought of driving anything there ever again

Get paid then fcuk off somewhere else and tell them to swivell lol
Was there an agreement signed for any kind of excess or fine for damage as a result of an accident.
Whatever happens report them to the H&S Exec. If you're required to drive by your employer and they don't take out the appropriate cover it's their lookout.
Just out of interest - what would have happened if you had refused to move the car in the first place? Would you have been told JFDI?
Oh and screw paying them back on that wage!
Get paid then fcuk off somewhere else and tell them to swivell lol
.
Oh aye,cos jobs are aplenty these days eh?!!
10 years ago you could, and would easily have been able to do that, now theres nothing about and just have to bite your lip-whats £40 a month compared to life on the Nat King Cole??? with zero hope and no money??
For £2.60 an hour, he could go and get a minimum wage job not on the apprentice scheme and earn £4.98 an hour (assuming he's 18-20)!!!
There are plenty of MW jobs if you're prepared to do it. Under £5k a year really is flipping the bird to those people like this guy who are making the effort to go out to work. It's not like the employer doesn't get loads of kick backs for taking them on either ;)

I agree, but i had that attitude at that age and wish i hadnt, yeah there maybe a few MW jobs out there but how many have chances of promotion? or any chance of progression-little to none i'd say! By the sounds of it he's better off paying it,serving his time till hes qualified, and refusing to drive-just say-"sorry im not prepared to take that risk again,im still paying for the last one"
Then tell them to stick it up their ringer when hes found another job.
They cant force you to drive them, and if your not on any insurance then you shouldnt be anyway!
Fair point. I suspect refusing to drive will have the same effect anyway (though your point is correct). He needs to at least put his point forward and stand some ground to avoid being taken for a mug if anything else goes wrong (at fault or not) during his employment.
Most apprentices get let go at the end of the term as the financial rewards from the Gov. dry up so they take on another but yes getting qualified isn't bad either. I guess this bit depends on the guy himself and what his long term goals are.
Best of luck OP!
I was also thinking about that but never wrote it "end of apprenticeship"-end of employment at said place generally. Then the cycle starts again, and thats how alot operate under cheap labour.

Tell him to do one. Cheeky fecker. Met a thousand clever coonts like him before and worked for them. If you are a proper apprentice report this to your college/training centre and they will help you if anything comes of it. He's is breaking the law on so many levels the HSE would fine him so much his eyes would water for months afterwards. ****ing chancer IMHO better off flipping burgers in Maccy D's then working for that kind of tit.
Plus if you where my boy and some **** tried that little number the last thing he'd worry about is sacking you.
