I sold my last SR Nova in September and I purchased a Corsa Sport as a stop gap while on the hunt for another Nova. I spotted this for sale and took a bit of a chance by buying it over the phone and got it left off to me last night. Overall I am very happy with the car it is very very solid and no rot. The car was registered on 27 02 1984, the first owner kept the car for a few months and the current registered keeper had it for almost 28 years. The tax expired nearly 12 years ago and has been stored away since. :)

Not sure how far too go with it because of it having such low miles (3,486) But anyway, over the next few months I plan on getting it as clean as I can. For now I am going to Refurbish/repaint the steels and try and source new caps. New number plates as the current plates have been on since it was new and have gone a bit dirty. Few other bits and pieces need doing also.

Here's a few pics from last night:

I have always liked the idea of owning a car like this - but then I would never know what to do with it!

To do it justice, you would have to just garage it and take it out a few times a year to keep it concours and I could never bring myself to do it! lol

Cheers Cormac. I just used "Gunk" to degrease the engine bay then polished it with autoglym super resin and done all the plastics/pipes etc with their rubber dressing. :)

Absolutely lovely car, at least as good as my 84 L.

For your hubcaps, clean them, then use loads of wd 40 to bring back the colour. Leave for a few days, then make sure the emblem bit is clean and hand paint with silver wheel paint. I used cotton buds and aerosol paint as it was thinner than tinned paint. Two coats. After a day or two cover and rub in linseed oil to trap the original wheelhub colour.

Regarding the number plates. Try to just clean them up, thye charm of the original plates will always be more attractive on an old car than new plates even if they are nice and shiny.

If you really wand to go for the original look, try to get one of the "MADE IN SPAIN" windscreen stickedrs that the early ones came with, mine has the original and I actually think it's cool.

Is it 4 or 5 speed? The little 1.0 ohv engine is a great engine for your first car, nippy enough without being fast. Simple engine and extremely reliable if well maintained, and very economoical. I still love my 1.0 swing.

Lovely to see such an original rare car.

Thanks Marc. The number plate on the front has cracked and the water has got into it, the rear is OK but it's gone dirty around where the screw goes into it. I will get exact copies of them made anyway along with a dealer sticker for rear window and a Made in Spain sticker for the front. The caps are in ok condition but the griffin has faded on them but I will paint them though using your method to see what they turn out like. The car is a 4 speed and it could probably be doing with a service just to leave it right. But as you say they are a really easy engine to maintain and stacks of room in the bay!

Cheers Nick. Yea there was a wee bit of surface rust along side that tray thing on the left hand side. I had a good look at it when I got when I got the car and it was solid so I sanded it down and treated it then dabbed a bit of polar white on it. Thankfully it wasnt rotten. :)

I had removed the interior panel behind the bootlid to remove the fixings were the old plate where. Here is what was behind:

Na I haven't sold it, guy came to collect it to give it a look over and MOT it. Keeps the miles of it instead of driving it to his garage. lol

Got the Nova back the other day.. it got new brake cylinders, new pads, oil change etc. It also needed a replacement carb which I got from Vessey. The person I got to check the car over for MOT doesn't know that much about carbs but I found another person that could have a look at it and set it up properly. Thankfully it doesn't need anything else now apart from the carb needing set up.

Anyway here is a few photos of how it is now (more or less finished) :thumb:

Been readng every page of this thread and I am both jealous and impressed. Cracking motor, and it's a real credit to you that it literally looks like a time capsule of 1984, right down to that push button radio.

As a fellow 1.0 MK1 owner I'm glad someone else out there is giving the old pushrod some love too :) Underrated engine but hates neglect (as I've found out over the years)

Thanks for the comment. :thumb:
Yea most people probably would have have took the engine out of it straight away as it was a non runner when I got it. Didn't need much to sort that though. :)

Looking clean Danny!

I got another mechanic to have a look at the car and the new carb I got for it is also not too good :(. So it looks like the only thing to do is rebuild it and save anymore hassle. Not to bothered when though as I have another project that I want to finish first. :)

Put on new plug leads, new distributor cap and finally got a new standard Weber carb for the Nova! The car seems to be going really well now and I should have it MOT'd in the next week or two. I can't believe I nearly have it a year now. lol

A man in Letterkenny bought it. I seemed to have quite a few calls from people down south as it is nearly 30 years old and can be put on to a ZV plate soon.
