Less than £300. More around £150-£200 mark imo.
Best getting one youve heard run and drove tbh, because theres a LOT of old, tired & smokey ones out there.

Defiantly make sure you hear one tuning there was a problem with the piston rings on the early ones

And dont be bothered with the c16xe's are best c**p, theres more x16xe's about and they have less burning oil issues. Just remember you need the immobiliser bits unless you ditching the standard ecu/loom

they usually go for between 150 and 350 bud why not buy a corsa gsi for bts then strip what you want sel the kit ect seat and make your money back!

Look for a 16xel from an Astra, better heads and you'll probably find a lower mileage one tbh, they are all pretty bad for oil stems though so watch for smokey ones if you can see them running.

About £300 with the gearbox, ecu and transponder should see you right, or depending what your doing get it running on an aftermarket ecu but then this will be more moneys.

i paid £225 for my x16xe from a tigra which i heard running etc with box, loom, transponder and key chip.

but as others have said they love to burn oil !!

whats your plans with a baby xe anyway scott ?

Scott you're pretty much looking at all the options I did when I went through engine choices lol Skip a few ums and ars and pick up an X18XE1, conversion is one or two steps harder than a C16XE from what I've seen and the heads on them are awesome, they've got ports very very similar to a Supra 2JZ or Toyota 3S-GTE, lovely wide rectangular port openings sat almost on top of the 2 valves. Huge potential from them imo, look at lee303's for the results. Bit more work on the valvetrain and boxes than a C20XE but similar power available and a much lighter setup.

Im looking at ALL avenues for a small block to turbo, but i dont want to spend stupid money! and TBF the old 8V is looking the most appealing right now! lol

What's wrong Worth a big block 8v turbo then lol

Ive felt the force of the small blocks handling ability and want to stay that way lol
And anyhow the 2.0l 8vt's are not nice to look at! lol

Agree with Ad. Plenty small block valvers about, worth spending whatever comes up thats easiest to view/try/hear running/collect. Make sure the seller shows/prooves its a 1.6, with the 1.4's looking so similar.

not often you see c16xe for sale at moment but around 300 mark, i went for the x16xe as there cheap but as it happened i was offered a full working corsa for less than the engines worth so stripped every last bit made a bit and got a free good working engine/box.

Get an xel as already said - buy a running Astra or better a vectra for £200 complete - weigh the shell in for £150 and you have a running engine for £50.

c16xe's are too fragile for my liking - piston/bore issues and stem seals made of cheese.

Some of the early x16xe suffered the same too

Get a full tigra

I just picked one up for its engine, under the bonnet is like new and engine goes pretty damn well in such a heavy shell!

Tigra would less likely to be thrashed unlike a corsa sport

do what i've just done buy a full car (make sure engine's good, can hear it running)
remove engine, loom, ecu and anything else worth any money to sell)
take shell to breakers, i got £120 back on a tigra
