View Full Version : Ewans Red 1.3sr
Hey guys I am new to the site and will become a full member soon. Just to let you guys know I have just bought dannymcc (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/member.php?70301-dannymcc&) old sr:)! Danny sold it to a car dealer in Ireland and I bought it of him. Norman the car dealer delivered the car to my place fife,scotland this afternoon. I am really happy with the car I cleaned it and had a good look over and cant find rust anywhere! Amazing! I will only be using the car in the summer and hopefully dry days only. The timing belt needs replaced as I dont have a reciept for it being changed. How long should it take to change the belt? How easy is it and should I change the waterpump at the same time?? Any comments on this subject would be most appreciated:thumb:. My plans are to fit a fulll suspension kit. What are the PI suspension kits like? To make the car 100% mint I would like to get new door pillar vinyls and 1 new centre cap as its cracked and dont think the standard stereo is working so if anyone has these parts they could sell me please pm me. Well thats it for now I am sure everyone saw the pics when danny had it but I will put some on anyway. Oh and big shout out to dannymcc (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/member.php?70301-dannymcc&) who was a great help to me by sending me pics and being 100% honest about the car THANKS DANNY BOY!:thumb:.

Had the opertunity on the car i know it well and very happy with it just one of these things spending a fair bit on it already as you do . I have just sold a lot of mk1 bits aswell but have a lot off usfull bits still left which you are more than welcome to see i will pm you wot thair is . Will have a rake about . Cant wait to see it in the flesh . Get some picks up

I cleaned the inside of the front wings, suspension turrets and rear arches today and I cannot find any rust anywhere. :d Everything seems to work ok but I have not had the car out as such because of tax and insurance. The car will be on the road come May 2012. The only real problem I have had so far whilst putting the car in reverse today is that I managed to pull the gear knob off:cry:. It looks like it has been glued on but I am not bothered about this as I will source one and repair.
Did you put a clear coating wax underneath the car? If so, what make and where did you get it? As it seems to do the job!?!:thumb:

Yea there no rust at all on the car, when I got it there was a oily type substance on it and it seems to have done the trick! I cleaned all that off and put a bit of WD40 underneath as I was going to put clear waxoyl on or similar at a later stage. When I put on a gear gaiter we were trying to get the gear knob of for ages, it ended up in pieces lol. I got another mint one though but I don't think I put it on right, thats probably why eventually broke. lol

As said on dannys thread, stunning car!! Just soooo clean and original.
A wee update. Thats the timing belt,waterpump,coolant,oil filter and oil changed. Insurance sorted with agreed price and taxed the car yesterday as I knew the weather was going to be good this weekend. I had the car out for the first time yesterday and was out again today and have covered 100 miles and glad to say the car runs sweet:d. Heres a few pics from yesterday when I went for a wee run along to St Andrews with the girlfriend what a lovely sunny day it was :cool:.

Almost identical to the SR we have which is Red too. But my brother and I have totally resisted modifying it after buying it. I know you have much pride over the SR but wouldn't lowering it take away from it's utter originality?
If you are gonna lower it, don't go for Pi. Do yourself and the SR a favour and get top quality suspension :thumb. Love it though! And you are right... they get much respect on the road, I know we do :)

I missed my old one. It could of been repaired and restored. But back then with no funds the car had to go :cry:. But now I am older and have more cash to spare I knew I just had to get another and still cant believe how mint my new one is with no rust because when I had my old one 10+ years ago most were rotten lol.

Here's one... only difference now compared to that picture is that it's got orange indicator lenses. Can't wait for summer as I wanna give it a proper good clean, polish, wax etc. :)

Very nice :). You need bumpstrips and to remove the skirts and it will look sweet :thumb:

Too much hassle mate. Unless you buy brand new they are gonna be wonky as funk. And I think the side skirts are bonded on so don't wanna risk ripping off any paint. It looks fine as it is. Still maintains 99% of its originality which is good enough :)

My wiper motor looked grubby so I painted it. Im not sure about it. What do you guys think?

The wiper motor and bracket look ace mate, the gold looks similar to the oe yellowish nickel/ passive plating that they came in mate

I will put a pic up of the exhaust. The tailpipe is curled on the end and as you have heard Iain it sounds amazing! I think you should get one of these ashley back boxes for your sport it would finish your car off nice. I emailed ashley and a backbox delivered is £115. Bargain!

Dread to think what the brakes were like before the upgrade....mind I do remember the popular fiesta....sparse it was.
MOT tomorrow. Last year the carb needed tweaked and had an advisory for one lower arm bush. The car has only done 600 miles since the last so fingers crossed it passes...

It is ridiculously clean though, good luck with the MOT :)
I'm sure you'll be ok, mine needed the CV boots (horrible job)and brake evening (after lying for a year), but the tester as always was so amazed to see an original SR.
I took my alloys off and went back to the steelies for a little bit more comfort.
Oh, Ewan, I have the same brochure but the previous owner removed the pages with the SR stuff. I got a copy of a 1.4 but can you get really good scans of the four pages with the SR stuff? Be really good to get the proper ones, the brochure is the one from the dealers that my car was bought from originally.

Sorry I dont have a scanner mate. There are a few on ebay. I think I got mine for £9 and it is in mint condition. :)
Well my nova passed its MOT today so well chuffed :d! I got the garage to balance the front wheels as it had a slight wobble at 55mph. So that is sorted now. Afterwards I went for a wee drive and took sum pics :).

My latest mod is fitting a pioneer stereo in the glovebox retaining the original head unit in the dash and fitting my 6x9 speakers (I bought these speakers for my first nova in 1999!) in a secondary shelf I bought and screwing MDF underneath to give it more strength and bass. Sounds great! So I still have the original to put back in for shows etc.

Typically I have family here from abroad......for that weekend only,they go away on the Monday isn't that typical, especially when it is only a few miles away, would have been perfect!
But any other weekend would be great but I don't think they do any other shows so would just be some Novas in the car park and alook through the museum....fine by me though.
If not how wuld folk feel about attending another show somewhere?
I hopefully have an mxl tyre comin my way from ebay to replace my only perished tyre :)
Are you running the alloys as in your pics? I am on the steelies that it came with and michilen tyres, a bit more comfortable and enough grip for a 1.3 although having driven the xe with the uprated brakes, the standard ones are shocking!

Yeh Marc running it on the alloys with the standard profile of 65. The brakes are mega scary compared with my MK5 golf! lol

This car reminds me of my 1st nova. It was a G reg 1.3sr in red. Fell in love with it as soon as I drove passed it. I went back and looked at it and that afternoon it was mine :-D

These are the Eibach and Koni shocks that I bought with light surface rust. I wire wheeled the springs and shocks then re-painted them. Here are the pics.

The kit should of lowered the car 35mm all round. I measured the front before and after. It has dropped 30mm. I forgot to measure the back as I was in a rush. I think it has only dropped about 10mm but I am still happy with the look as I didn't want to go too low just subtle.

Looks to be a very clean sr.
Cheers. It must be one of the cleanest and original sr's left and I intend on keeping it that way with no other mods. I just didn't like the massive arch gaps on the front so lowering was required. Not too low just enough and should improve the handling once I set the dampers up.
Gotta say I've just read the full thread and omg this is one phenomenally clean SR a car like that should never be molested and kept as standard as possible :-)

Well that's the sr passed its mot again so well chuffed :d. I have owned the car for 2.5 years now and its only needed the carb tweaked for a mot 2 years ago. So far it has served me well! Just add fuel and enjoy! :)lol

Yeh they are rare! My sr will be staying as it is for a very long time....

Next month I have owned the car for 3 years. Can anyone suggest what I should or could do with the car to improve it without massive mods? A new coolant tank is on the list along with finding a spray paint for the coolant to rad hose (as I don't know where to get one). Suspension is sorted along with the wheels/tyres. I might just need to continue to drive it and go to more shows. Let me know any opinions or thoughts . Cheers.

Absolutely amazing/epic.. I love the way it's not perfect if you get me. Love the originalty of it. Has it any imperfections? Any more plans?
Thanks. Its a very honest car and does have small imperfections like a couple of small scratches chips etc as you would expect for a 27 year old car. I don't have anymore plans for it as I don't want to change anything that is perfectly good enough. Buying new shiny parts sounds like a good idea but then you take away originality and new parts soon become used/old anyway so your just chasing your tail. Well that's my thoughts anyway.

It looks like it is in fantastic condition, hard to believe a Nova SR has lasted so long in such good condition.
