This Nova used to belong to me pal AlanH from here and he fitted a LET To it and did lots of other work to it, theres a build thread for it somewhere.

Anyway he gave up on it because hes gay and started working on his Yamaha R1 Instead, so he sold the nova to Darren Lister who is a member on here now also.

So the car came to me to have some bodywork done and a full respray, i had just got my own garage and started doing jobs in it for really good prices.

My price for a NOVA ONLY full respray was £300, the paint and everything come to around £140, But us nova boys stick together so i do it cheap for novas.

So this is the way the car came to me.

It had just had arch repair panels welded in so i started smoothing them out, and i got my mate in and payed him to help, so while i was out somewhere i got him to strip all the car down

It had a bonnet with Astra GTE Vents recessed into it so i made him a deal that i fit a GSi spoiler and a standard bonnet and i take that bonnet for mine.

Then i spent like 3 days flattening and polishing it working my way up the grades with a soft interface pad on my DA upto 2500, never done it before so decided to try it out for when i paint mine again.

Chuffing hell mate £300! Paint £140? By the time you take off rent and electric for a weeks work you've got to be out of pocket in a big way on that job! You wont be in business long at that rate...

Plus you paid your mate to help!

Looks good though..

LEWI007
20-01-12, 11:17 AM
Well the rent was £10 a week with FREE Electric lol lol lol

I made about 160 profit, my mate only got 40 so i made £120, spent most of that on new paintguns and tools etc so im ready for the next job.

Then i packed the garage in lol

Plus im not really bothered, ANY money i make is a good thing cos there isnt any jobs at all!

with work like that, you could be onto a decent earner... i know a bloke who does small repair/spray jobs for private & trade form a shed way smaller than yours, and he makes a decent living.....

LEWI007
20-01-12, 01:35 PM
Cheers, well the paintjob was flawless and really really shiny as i flattened it with the DA and polished the crap out of it with a bunch of different polishes and some G4 Which is supposedly better than G3 But i dont know.

It started raining when i took the pics though, the ones on the digital camera are better.

I made sure it was perfect because i want to earn/keep a good reputation.

Impressive Lewi, you could of probably charged double that and it's still very cheap.

Looks ok TBH. When i saw £300 i was expecting a picture of some orange peel and more runs than a night on the beer/curry.

So you filled and finished the arch, primed it, painted it and flat and polished it for £300? Funk me dude! That's crazy. Even dub that is ultra cheap...

Have to say, you've got a great looking finish on the paint too. Good work. Impressed i am.

Yep used the little compressor lol we worked in very hard conditions, there was 2 drips in the roof so we had to position the car on an angle so it dodged the drip lol and my friend had to follow me round the car dragging the compressor round !!

But you gotta start from somewhere eh..

Benn, i filled BOTH back quarters, filled almost every single dent i could see in the whole car and sprayed the whole car inside and out !

Colour coded door handles, number plate light, boot grab handle and front and back bumpers and mirror covers.

I said if we lined a big bunch of novas up outside the garage id spray the lot at £300 each lol
I packed the garage in though a few weeks after, i can paint stuff in my friends or my dads garage but its not the same as having my own!

LEWI007

I know the owners or have worked in every bodyshop round here, no jobs anywhere man im guttered, gotta keep trying though.

Nobby - If ive been spraying cars for around 5-6 years since i was 14-15, does that still mean its DIY ? lol
