hi trying to change my steering wheel what a headache any easy way last time i did one it took about 1hr hitting it with a hammer.........

Buy a steering wheel puller.

If it's a standard GM steering wheel then buy a puller, it's well worth the £15-odd.
But they don't work on all aftermarket steering wheels sadly.
It's easy to damage the column by beating it.

Yes they do :thumb:
To use a puller on an aftermarket boss....
1. Remove circlip holding the leg in place.
2. remove both legs leaving just the main block and screw.
3. place block UNDER top edge of boss.
4. wind screw down as normal and it pushes upwards on the boss and pops it off.

That didn't work on my old replica Momo wheel :( It did have a crap boss on it though.
Ended up letting Christian loose on it with a hammer :d

I have used that method on 4-5 aftermarket bosses with out issue, actually, saying that 1 of them did start to bend the metal a little so I released it turned it 90 degrees and tried again with success, if your able to remove the horn push and leave the wheel attached to the boss it offers a stronger area to push on. Then again, I could just be lucky..lol

i remove the nut until its flush with top of the colounm empty a load of spray oil on the splines of the wheel leave for a few minuits and tap colounm with punch and hammer (not overly hard though) pressure of the spring behind wheel pops it off

remove the retaining nut and smack face against steering wheel until it pops off, it will hit your face without a puller anyway!
edit - or dare a mate to pull it off, :)

i vote this method, then when said mate is in tears calmly turn around and say you've found your puller lol

best way i have found is undo the retaining but and do it back up so its flush with the end of the collum, then spray into the splines with penetrating fluid and tap it with a hammer whilst giving it a good pull.
hamering it does damage the collum as they are collapsable and you can actually see on mine where its slightly kinked so was rubbing on the steering wheel cowling so i would advise against it
i used a jug of boiling water and a quick tug, ohh err.
worked a treat no damage, and as long as you use a bucket to catch said water you will have dry carpets also.

Painful. lol.
I used a hammer on my column once, it was fine other than it was a complete pig to remove and ended up screwing up the threads on the top. Spend an hour or so with a thread filer to get it all back to how it should have been. However, the steering wheel stayed on lol.
I have learnt my lesson though. Took delivery of the steering wheel puller yesterday :d
