bet that ktm was a bit of an animal david!

i started out with a racetuned rm80 which was rapid but blew up twice.
http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a438/grooge/rm80.jpg

wanted something bigger and more reliable so got a dt125 which did the job nicely, so reliable but missing the mental power
http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a438/grooge/dirtbike.jpg

was after a wee bit more power and my mate wanted the yamaha so next up was a kmx200
cant find a pic just now

this was also nice and reliable and kept me content for a wee bit but obviously still not a proper mx bike so i started looking for a crosser

ended up getting a drz400 somehow which is totally different altogether.
http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a438/grooge/drz400.jpg

i like it but a bit tall and heavy for me for offroad riding and i still want another crosser, so this summer hoping to pass my test and put supermoto wheels on the drz and finally pick up a 125 crosser, maybe even a 250. possibly look at a vfr400 aswell if i have the cash/room for 3 bikes

got a wee 90cc chinese bike aswell, got it off a farm near me after they were skipping it as it had sat for so many years, got it running again n it'll be gettin ridden off the local quarry this summer lol

Wanting either a nc30 vfr400 or maybe a 2001 r6 for my first bike later on in the year, then saving for an old british bike to restore as i really want one and need to get one before they get out of my price range

For those of youu lookin to get a vfr 400 I wouldent I had one dident like it one bit they look nice but go test other 400 first but tbh they aren't that fast and use alot of fuel I'd go for a bigger bike.

Connor
10-01-12, 02:36 AM
ive ridden a vfr400 before and it was awesome, i love the handling, rode a gsxr400 equivalent and it was alot worse.
I have always thought the nc30 vfr400's were great lil handling bikes?

svlet
10-01-12, 02:45 AM
I just recon you would be more pleased by the smother power delivery of a bigger bike out of all the bikes iv had and been on Vfr was least favourite I preferred my ktm supermoto handled better only did about 110 wich isn't far off the Vfr but u dont need speed to have fun.

i'd try and have a shot of a mates before buying anyway but cheers for the heads up.

cant really compare a supermoto to a sportsbike. i mean doing 100 mph on a supermoto isnt exactly comfy. i agree that riding a supermoto is good fun though, and at lower speeds than you'd end up doing on a sportsbike. after riding a supermoto thats why i want the wheels for my drz

the only thing that puts me off a bigger engined sports bike is the speeds i'd end up doing on it. the likes of going up the west coast, loch lomond, fort william, skye etc you see speed traps everywhere now and am not sure i'd have the self control to avoid losing my license if am honest.

I see what you mean as the ride style is compleatly different on each bike but when your riding a supermoto you don't really want to go fast and my ktm was probs comftyer than my vfr my ktm was a 450exc tht I converted to supermoto honestly buy the wheels it's best thing you will ever do. I know what you mean about self control well I had none lol my fireblade was built for one purpose wheelies at speed so you can imagine what it was like on the road.

Lol I was alright on it wasent scared to try anything it was good for wheelies but at same time if you dident want it to it stayed down but my blade was different on an old farm track I managed to get up to 138 on the back wheel mate had it faster but he was really good at them tbh a bike is what you make it if you get on thinking your going to smash you most likly will i wasent scared of my blade even tho was only 17 when first got it I still have the dyno print for it's last run I'll look it out later

all this talk of bikes, thought ad go for a ride today

2nd ever highside, and some way worse than my first, knocked maself out, shock and concussion, wee chunk missing from finger, left shoulder is agony, as are both kness and my right hand aswell, then general soreness everywhere else, my leg hurts aswell lol

wats peoples opinion on replacing helmets? mine took a full front hit n the mouthguard bent into towards my face, paint missing and badly scratched, maybe a wee chip out it, seems ok to me, doesnt flex or anything, replace it or keep using it??

oh, and the bike'll be needing new bars, clutch lever and handguard. plastics are scratched up aswell but not too bad

High sided going off his drive!

I started off with a wee 125 road bike, cant remember what it was I'll dig the pics out. First big bike was a VFR 750, then a ZX6 a1p, then another two VFR 750's then I've now got a R6

Yep a combination of cold tyres and too much throttle, he backed off the throttle and it gripped and threw him off. He couldn't apologise enough.

I have a 1991 CR125r that I've been restoring from a bare frame, it's actually only been 6 years since I started so a lot faster than my gsi build lol

Lewis.
17-01-12, 08:41 PM
oh god I've had far too many, but I love nothing better than picture whoring, so here goes

I started my riding career at 14, and Balley taught me to ride on his TY80, then got a very tatty DT50 field bike,
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/DT.jpg

then a '98 DR125
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/dr.jpg

swapped that with some bloke for an '85 RM250 (worth twice the DR, couldn't believe he wanted a straight swap lol)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/RM250.jpg

was a bit big for me (15 y/o) so I sold that on and bought a 1997 CR125. I loved that bike, I wish I never sold it
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/CR2.jpg

Then had to sell it to buy my first road bike. 2001 Derbi Senda 50, bought it with a knackered top end and buggered crank seals, so completely stripped and rebuild the engine and the bike, was still a bag of sh*te so sold it after a month
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/Senda.jpg

Got a pretty nice '99 Aprillia RX50, This was my daily commuter for a year, doing over 250 miles a week. I do genuinely miss this bike, it really did earn it's keep.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/DSC00176-1.jpg

then did my full test at 17, so got a '91 NSR125 (Balley gets credit for the paint job)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/DSC00441-1.jpg

Then had cravings for the mud again, so bought an XLR250 baja. unfortunately it developed a habit of eating CDI's so spent more time in the shed than on the road.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/DSC00560.jpg

Then bought a bargain TZR250 as a winter hack.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/DSC00666-1.jpg

Sold the TZR to help pay the insurance for my first car. Then a few months later I came into some money so bought another bike.
got this beast: one of 2 built from new bikes in 1996, It's a CR250 frame, with ohlins shock and white power USD forks, and a XR250 engine, bored and stroked to 370cc, silly high compression, 2mm oversized valves, mental cam, big fin head, 2 huge oil coolers. impossible to start
turned out to be a ringer, so I sold it to a policeman. lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/bikes/right.jpg

Then bought the love of my life, who I've been with for over 2 years now. the rest only lasted a few months each.
