Hey mate on that year there was problems with certain gearboxs something to do with the rivets on diff snapping Ive just had to replace a box on one it started to leak oil and then sounded really nosiy until clutch was pressed also It would struggle to get 1st 2nd & 5th just look for any leaks on bell housing.

Sounds cheap.. very cheap but how much would it be worth if say the engine/gearbox blew up?

Could you sell for spares easy enough if this happened??

Not tempting a jinx fate on you BTW lol

They are pretty good cars my m8 has a gt tdi he has had no problems apart from rust they can be bad for the rear arches and front wings rusting. You should consider a diesel 130 or 150. The 130 is about half the money for tax and 50mpg and you can get a secondhand tuning box for cheap instead of a remap and you'l get an extra 30bhp and 30lbs ft of torque and will be even better on fuel! I have a mk5 gt tdi 140 with a Tunit box fitted to take it to 170bhp what a difference! It keeps with 200bhp petrols as long as I'm rolling..
