been looking at what i can paint the nova with once ive finished welding it and it appears Xylene based red oxide is a good choice. has anyone else used this as a base coat or something to protect any kind of metal work? the veedub fanbois seem to use it on beetles and campers as the final paint so im assuming its pretty good...and its cheap too.

need some sort of protection while i save up for the primer, paint and lacquer etc and its put back in a barn lol

this is true. few on ebay for £25 5ltr tin. + thinners on top, waterproof stuff. even if i had to use 2 coats. but i guess ill see what money is like when the time comes

it would get stored inside a barn, it just gets dripped on a bit, could cover it with plastic as well lol.

Its not just the water you can see, there is always moisture in the air. Unless the barn is in the desert of course!

Weld through primer, weld, acid etch, primer then the painting stages is all i do.Lets face it,no matter how expensive the paint is,if its gonna rust its gonna rust.
The Upol acid/weld etch range are £12 a tin.But very good.

I use both brush on Zinc and red lead.. I would say Zinc is better. I plan to spray the hole car with it any way :)

it will get a coat of normal primer over the top of that.

I've used brush on red oxide primer & it seems quite good as a base.
